Have I just been in a fog lately and missed there was a petition for spring black bear management hunt being discussed at the Wildlife Commission meeting today 20 Jan 23? I dont rember seeing anything on here about it but I could have just totally missed it. Here is a link to the petition https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2023-01/20230128-petition-december-19th-2022-redacted.pdf (https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2023-01/20230128-petition-december-19th-2022-redacted.pdf). Did anyone listen in to the meeting and how did it go? I am guessing it got shut down by the incompetent Commission.

It’s going to be discussed Friday January 27th at 1pm, next week
-
Well I guess I just can't read. Not sure why I thought it was today but thanks for setting me straight.
-
Just got the email. Must have missed the petition.
-
There is still chance to provide public comment on this petition under the agenda item: Open Public Input. It is necessary for commenta to go under the OPI agenda item because there is no formal comment period for the petition item.
Comments can be emailed to commission@dfw.wa.gov with subject line something like, "January 27th Meeting: Open Public Input."
Public comment must be received by 8 am on the Thursday before the start of the Commission meeting (January 26th).
To clarify, this is not the type of petition where many people sign it before submission. Rather, it is simply a formal request.
-
If you cannot speak, you can always send emails to the commission regarding the spring bear petition that will be discussed this week.
-
Well written petition with very valid, wide ranging points. I'd emailed last week and am signed up to speak so hopefully will have a slot.

Some great comments so far at the meeting. Apparently Doug Boze put in a PDR that caught commissioner Rowland talking with some one from WOlf Haven international during a meeting. I guess some people arnt as bright as they think they are.
-
WDFW staff recommend denying the petition, so I don't see it having a chance today.

True but turning up the heat to a couple of these corrupt commissioners is completely appropriate.

Definitely. They need to keep getting hammered.

I enjoy their back peddling trying to make themselves look better tho

Funny how the lawyer was completely silent when Don McIssac brought up procedure and liability but now seems to being it up to "Clarify" the spring bear petition.
-
Well that was disappointing, 3 in favor and 5 against. There is some real tension between WDFW and the commission. The commission just made a bunch of work for themselves and will have to give WDFW more direction.
-
I will try to be brief.
The issue of spring bear hunt is complicated, the procedural/legal aspects of this process are complicated, and communicating about these complicated topics is... complicated. I do not claim 100% comprehension of these things, but I do know this:
From commissioner Baker (no vote) herself on the topic of spring bear hunt, "This issue is certainly not over."

Actually, I'm not sure it could have gone any better. There was never a chance of the petition being passed today, even the staff recommended denial for good reason. However, there was excellent dialogue today. Several no voters made it clear that they are open to considering management hunts using recreational hunters in the future. Both the commission and staff agreed that there is a strong need to continue conversations on providing the guidelines on what constitutes a management need for spring bear hunts.

Yes long term I think it will be good but for the immediate future it is going to be turbulent and uncomfortable for sure.
I hate it when commissioners spew numbers just out of their head like calf recruitment has increased in the blue mountains since spring bear was cancelled. Lehmkuhl. :bash:

How is it they (lehmkuhl) cant be called out and corrected and otherwise be held accountable for erroneous information ? That is how they let misinformation (lies) float for intake by the sheep .

I have no idea. Once again they made mention it is wrong to have any hunting in the spring. Again forgetting about the spring turkey season.
-
I stopped following their meetings when it was mentioned that spring hunting bears during their mating season was mean and we don't do that for any other species so we shouldn't do it to bears.

It doesn't really much matter after that do it :(

Just like I thought when I sent a comment in, fool me twice now, what a joke. No more, take those petitions and shove em.

She made it very clear she didn't say what she said about her ignorance of turkey hunting. Even explained to everyone on where and how to find the regulations. :bash:

Our commission is a joke but completely expected from these clowns. They denied the petition for future spring black bear management as of today. Such a corrupt state when it comes to fish and wildlife as well as our firearms.
-
First chance I get Im selling and moving 12 hours east
Ive had enough
Cant do chit anymore here I like
Even parking at gate’s and boat ramps is a crap shoot
-
I don’t know why we should fill out end of season reports, they do t need the data anymore because the commission doesn’t care what the bios say or about the science.
