Title: Burns?
Post by: alecvg on May 27, 2009, 06:02:43 PM: I love to hunt burns, but so far haven't done to well in them. I have heard that it takes 3 to 4 years for a burn to get good, is that accurate? How long to burns stay good hunting? What times of the year are the best for hunting it?

Post by: fishunt247 on May 27, 2009, 10:41:59 PM: :yeah: In 2005, I hunted a burn that was PHENOMENAL to say the least. There were deer everywhere. I want to say it was 3 or 4 years after. There were deer in there 2 yrs after the burn, turkeys and elk too. But 2005 it heated up in a big way. The grass grew up really tall, deer were bedding in the grass all the time, out feeding all the time, it was crazy. Since then, that deer herd has gone to total *censored*, so it doesn't produce like it did. I would venture to say if the herd stayed strong, it would still produce.
It seemed to attract the does in large numbers, and with the rut nearing, bucks were showing up like mad. There were a lot in there on the opener though too.

Post by: finnman on May 29, 2009, 12:34:56 PM: The best muley hunting I have ever experianced was in a 3-4 year old burn in Oregon, bucks running every where, we went 7 for 7 that hunt! Group went back 2 years later and the place got noticed, it was over run with people but the deer were still in it.......
