Does anybody know when the news season setting proposals are going to be out?
-
Usually they have a preliminary proposal by now, but I looked and couldn't find it.
All I found was this:

Thanks @Bobcat for the link. Once I explored around it looks like there are a good bit more pending or current rule making proposals in the works. I don't recall seeing an email from the department on any of these. Probably needs moved to a general discussion rather than deer hunting but I'll post the link here: https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development#preproposal-rule-making.
@Shooter4 this looks like the one you're after: https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development/2023-hunting-season-setting
Also noticed that the feedback/public comment is within each of the respective links and have separate email addresses to comment. Go find the one(s) you're passionate about and provide feedback. Couple that caught my eye are:
https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development/special-use-permits
https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development/dog-aversion-training
https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development/recreation-easements-private-land
https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/development/wdfw-mobile-licensing-and-electronic-harvest-reporting
Thanks,

But nothing about special permit quotas. That's what I'm interested in seeing. We already know general seasons for 2023 since they were set in 2021.
-
These are normally out by late January. The proposed special permits, I hope they get them up soon.

Right that’s what I’m interested in too and haven’t heard anything

Maybe taking longer this time because they want to do the same thing with deer and elk seasons that they did with the spring bear season. :yike:

Makes a guy wonder...that's for sure.

Probably be my last year of buying a license and permit app before the regs come out.
-
I wonder if they are going to change seasons for deer in the NE corner because of the Bluetongue kill?

If any of you haven't joined www.w4wc.org yet, it's time. Let's put Inslee and the Wildlife Commission back in the places. If we get dinged a season or species, this Fall is too late to do anything about it.

Looked like modest tweaks in my quick scan:

Any thoughts why the Wenaha ram tag is on the chopping block? I thought it went unfilled last season? I wouldn't apply for that one anyway but just curious.
-
We share those sheep with Oregon so for now there’s a rotation between WA, OR, and the Umatilla tribe. It was WA’s turn in 2021 but the fire closure resulted in it being rolled to 2022. If lamb survival keeps trending up it’ll be open for everyone I would think in a few years.

Copy that, thanks!

Might be a good app strategy to just burn your points on a middle of the road hunt the way this looks to be shaking out

On what? Draw odds are low single digits across the board.

:yeah: Been trying to burn on the best odds hunts for a few years now. Maybe change it up a little this year. :dunno: :'( :'(

sunk-cost fallacy
noun
the phenomenon whereby a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial.
"the sunk-cost fallacy creeps into a lot of major financial decisions special permit applications"

With the Anti-Hunting Commission I would think they will wait until the last possible minute to put anything out there.

Or they've just decided to say the hell with Public input before publishing. Pretty much the way all those public opinion polls have been swinging anyway...

That sums it up.
