Just kidding I’m not looking for secret spots. I am however seeking some advice. Me and an old army buddy are going to get together with our families do some camping and try some turkey hunting. Getting a turkey would be awesome but not the end all be all. Eventually if we get into it and figure out what we are doing I’d like to be a regular thing with some old friends. Like elk camp with less pressure. The area I have initially picked is around brooks memorial state park just north of goldendale. From reading and researching this obviously doesn’t seem like the best success location. However he has a longer camper 32’ so he is not able to get as back country as me. I’m sure most of you will say north of Spokane would be the best but I couldn’t find anywhere to camp during turkey season. Does anyone have any experience hunting turkeys north of goldendale area? Am I completely wasting our time hunting there? Anything I should know to increase our odds? Thanks for any help in advance.

Go north
Little Pend Orielle wildlife area has spots to camp
Or Fort Spokane north of Davenport
Get there a few days prior to opener
You’ll get your opportunities
Good luck

Thanks for the info. Are you saying it’s a complete waste of time around goldendale then?

Anyone with a goldendale spot isn't going to give it to you.
I could put you in an area where most people don't look.
The area does have really good camping for families.

Madmax is spot on, well worth the extra miles for the better opportunity imo
Edit i read your post a little better the 2nd time pm sent

Understood thank you. I’m not looking for anyone’s spot I just wanted to know if the area I planned on trying around brooks memorial was a waste of time. I think I got some solid advice though.
Cheers everyone.

The past few years there has been rv’s in the Goldendale area days before season opener and even durning mid-season. I would possibly look up NE if you’re willing and able to. That’s what I’ll be doing this year, unfortunately.
Goodluck 👍🏽

I don't have any turkey hunting expertise but did have turkeys in camp at fort Spokane and porcupine bay during winter fishing trips. One wouldn't stop gobbling for hours one morning. Fired off about every three minutes in January

In my experience around goldendale, most of the turkeys stick close to town in the loosely developed areas. Maybe other people have had better luck, but I never encountered turkeys anywhere near the timber land where you can actually hunt.

Just send you a message...

I used to hunt vail back in the day when it was open. I never get lucky when trying to get the vail permit. I started getting a Hancock permit by enumclaw instead just because I actually am able to get a permit. Never seen any turkeys in Hancock though.
Maybe I’ll try and get lucky with vail this year. Thanks!

I'm also a guy that's gonna say NE WA.
With that said.
Not sure on opening day yet.
We have alot of snow still blocking Mountain roads for the most part.
It could melt in a hurry ,never know.
Still a 45 days left to melt.

NE seems to be the group consensus. Which I kinda already figured. I may try and run out to the ne myself early in the season and go with my buddy again down by brooks.
Thanks

Had about 3 dozen pasture maggots at the end of the driveway this morning.

I live in western Washington and am trying to get my son and I in to turkey hunting. We have turkeys here but not in abundance. Curious on peoples opinions on NE WA over northern Idaho as far as access and success odds for a beginner. I've heard NE Wa can be a zoo and that north idaho doesn't get as much pressure. Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I wouldn't say any more of a zoo than deer season or any other season.
Idaho is just awesome for everything.
So that's just a matter of where you want to go.

Odds are better in Idaho but I wouldn't run over there unless you know someone that can put you on turkeys. A lot of the good areas on the border are private.
The better turkey areas in through Lewiston. Around Grangeville and further.
I don't hunt Idaho but I had a friend who did. It can work out in the right situation.
