Title: Glock fan club.....need some suggestions
Post by: jrebel on March 05, 2023, 11:47:31 AM
Well....I've joined the dark side and bought my first Glock (Gen 5 model 17).  I will be purchasing the model 22 in the coming months as well.  I'm blaming the COVID vaccines for making crazy and steering me toward glocks..... :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:  Joking of course.  Next thing you know, I'll be driving a prius.   :tung: :tung: :chuckle: :chuckle:

My questions....

1.  What is your choice in aftermarket sights?  The plastic has to go ASAP.  I do not need a suppressor height sight system as this will not be suppressed.  I do like tritium or ?? other night sights but am not a fan of fiber optic.

2.  I am a leather holster type of guy and like OWB 3-5 oclock carry.  Who makes a good holster.  I may look into a chest rig, which if I do, I have really enjoyed my gunfighters inc. for others pistols, but at current time am looking for a good comfortable OWB leather.

3.  What else am I forgetting or should I know about glocks?  I'm all ears....but am not overly interested in modifying these pistols as I want them to run reliably.  I have heard horror stories of people modifying these pistols only to have failures.  I will say, the trigger on the gen 5 was not near as offensive as earlier models....matter of fact, I am pleasantly pleased.

Thanks for any input.

Glocks.... I hate them! But, have to have them (love/hate or something like that), I just try not to compare them to a nice 1911 :chuckle: :chuckle:
Seriously I put a Leupold Delta Point Micro on a model 20 a few weeks back and all my worries of it being too small of a sight picture have gone away...it's a 5-minute install and does not interfere with holsters... point and fire - they are super-fast.
I really like Galco leather holsters, use them the most, nice looking, secure, and quiet.
Good Luck... already searching for next Glock  :bash:

Trigger disconnect bar made a huge difference on mine.
Brought the rigger to a nice 3.5 pounds.
They cost less than $20, and you can install it yourself very easily after watching a youtube video or two.

I also put in a heavier spring in mine since I got it specifically to carry big loads in Grizzly country.

Those are the two best mods for me.

This thread looks familiar!! I bought a Glock model 26 for the wife and she loves it! If I can buy an extended mag, or find one, I’ll do that. Fits her hand nicely

both my carry guns are Glocks. I don't love them, but I shoot them very well and I trust them to always go bang.
glock 20 for the woods and a 48 for around town.

only thing I have changed on them is sights. Used ameriglo tritium I dot pro sights. Love the quick sight picture, especially in low light as there is only 2 dots to worry about. Having both guns use the same sights is nice as these are the only 2 I defensively carry.

I might consider some sort of trigger work on the 20 in the future, the 48 has an amazing trigger from the factory so it'll stay just how it is.

The 48 rides around in a custom JT tactical fat guy holster. easily the best holster I've every had for ccw reasons.

The 20 is in a chest rig most of the time from gunfighters inc. I also have a paddle holster of some sort in case I want it on my hip in camp, but I don't  remember what it is, and it hardly every gets used.

I've had my Gen4 G17 for quite awhile now and the only thing I've done to it was put in aftermarket trigger which shortened the length of pull and dropped the pull rate a couple pounds but if you're happy with the trigger out of the box there's no need to mess with it.  The ZEV trigger kit I used was a easy straight forward install and has run good since install.  Glocks may not be my first choice but it's just a personal preference thing and any that I've had have always shot well.

1. Trijicon or Ameriglo

2. Galco

3. If you like the trigger, don't mess with it.

I have had good luck with Trigicon sights.

Holsters I have a box full, lol

Milf Sparks has some of the best leather holsters. I have a Versa Max II (IDB) it is a work of art.
Gal I makes great holsters at a decent price. I have a King Tuk (most comfortable (IDB holster I have used of many) and a Cop three slot, a Fletch Highrise, and a Southern Comfort II. Disantis Speed scabbard is also good.
Kydex, Gunfighter Inc. Custom Ronin is good.

TrIjicon sights for the win . Better yet is a Trijicon RMR  :chuckle: paired with Trijicon Suppressor height sights . As for Holsters I'm a Kydex guy , except for a 1911 . Then it's custom Leather  . As for modifying them . I only have 1 Glock a 19 gen for . The only Glock part remaining is the frame . 1000s of rounds and not 1 malfunction  :dunno:

This is the best description of a Glock I have ever heard.  I call them the flat tipped shovel of the gun world, ain't pretty just a good tool.

I suggest blackhawk sherpa holsters they are simple, positive lock and adjustable.
