There are some good options online at the Wall Tent Shop out of Idaho. And he's got some good information you can read on his website. I almost went with a Riley or a Kni-Co stove. You can see them here:

A dog stove would be the best. But they are only making four dog model now.
I have three 10 x12 wall tents. I have two 3 dog models and a cylinder stove. If I could find another 3 dog, I wold get rid of the cylinder.
Lots of guys are happy with the cylinder stove but I don’t like them. I am in my tents five to six weeks every year.
Box stove easier to pack.
More surface to cook on.
Holds more wood

I have a 4 dog stove and it will do the job in a 10x 12 or bigger we use it i our cook shack.

Appreciate some of the feedback. For sure want the stove to be a box stove, also had seen the stove fan and for sure will get one of those, like I said I have to think about being portable due to circumstances as I can’t be lifting those 100 to 140lb stoves. And also looking at burn rates for burn time and longevity of the stove and not going with a stove that will just burn out on me. So looking for an investment but trying to also keep the cost within reason. But also looking at the idea of having a stove a little larger in wood capacity to help with burn time and such as I can alway dampen it back to lower heat a bit to keep it burning longer. As I know a 10x12 isn’t considered a huge tent to heat but would rather go a bit bigger than being a little underpowered. Not looking to have a water tank or necessarily do any cooking. Just to add heat to tent and help dry clothing and such. A lot of variables for sure out there.

I am working on reading the wall tent tips and tricks postings. There is a lot of info on there so will keep reading as I have time.
Next nice days I will be working on setting up the tent and then seeing what I want to add and such. I have a few things on the list for sure to get.

All my dog stoves have the handles. The cylinder stoves don’t.
Couple tips.
After six years I never take a damper. Can regulate heat by air intake adjustment.
A oil drip pan, metal is the best option for under the stove.
Don’t worry about protection behind stove. Most heat goes out top and sides. Even with my stove read hot it has never bothered the canvas.
Most tent fires are from the pipe lifting out of the top of the stove during wind. Wire the pipe down to the stove. Another use for handles.

I have a steel 4-Dog that I purchased about 20 years ago, or so. Good stove. It has a baffle in the fire box just below the pipe exit hole. The baffle helps keep the heat and smoke from just shooting up the pipe. The website says they are still baffled. The legs come off for transport and it has the carry handles. I would definitely buy another, but I'll never need to.

I built mine using 50. in material and 10 for door gasket. Octagon in shape 14x14 with a 12x12 door. will burn all night and will boil water faster than at home. i even make pancakes on it. I added a water heater to the side of it last summer for breakfast and to keep the air from being to dry. :twocents:
I realize not everyone can or has the equipment thats why i say draw it up and go to a fab shop. they love building cool stuff like this.

But the kit is super simple to install, all you need is a drill and a grinder with a few cutoff wheels. Your chimney stand, the legs and the door screw into place once you’ve cut the openings, then just buy some single wall 5” chimney pipe at the hardware store and you’re in business. I also threw a chunk of expanded metal and a few shovel fills of dirt in there to keep the bottom from burning out.
I bet it took me less than 30 minutes to put it all together. And after a few burns and getting familiar with the chimney dampener and the vent on the door you can dial them in pretty good. Once I get the tent heated up I can really crank it down to where it’s just on the verge of smoking inside the tent and it’ll hold a fire for 6 hours. Granted, it’s not much of a fire after 6 hours but a few sticks of kindlin gets it right back up and burning.

It is portable enough at 38 pounds stove only and everyone that has them seems to like them. So I won’t be too worried about someone getting hurt moving it around camp. Also with a 20 inch length on the stove should work fine for most of the wood I have available. I will place the order soon and anxiously wait to receive. I did set up the new tent and really like it. Being a 10x12 this stove should work well. Also just received a stove fan in the mail to circulate the heat. And have all the wood for seasons stacked and stored nice and dry ready to go. I appreciate the info and tips everyone had to offer.

I might suggest a metal drip pan from Walmart under the new stovefor those embers that sometimes fall out during loading. Cheap and easy insurance. I record all the places I have camped with the tent on mine. :tup:
