Spent the weekend camped out at Half way flats. Got up early and took me bike for a ride looking for wildlife. Sat i headed up the 1706, rode the most the side roads looking for animal. Saw a total of 3 cows, 2 deer (a doe and a 3 PT in velvet). Kind of disappointed in the lack of elk around. O yeah, i did see a 8 does running together in th eupper hills.
Today was a different story. Headed up Milk Creek Rd to do some riding and cam across a doe with 2 fawns. They were only hrs old, for they did not have the ability to walk yet. They would take a step or two and fall down. One just stayed but the other tryed t follow mom.
I was trying to get a picture of the deer but the camera read "memory card Locked" :dunno: i fiddeled with it untill i remembered how to unlock the mem card, but by that time the deer were gone. I wlked in the direction they went and seen mom walk behind a bush, so i waited to see if the fawn's would come out. I took 3 steps forward to get a better view (mom crossed about 40 yards in front of me), I looked down and there was one of the fawns. I stepped back, took some pic and left it where it layed with out bothering it. As i was heading back to my bike i darn neer triped over the other fawn. I again took a few a pictures and left it alone. Mom was close by keeping an eye on me. I assured her that i offer no harm and felt her and the fawns alone.
It was amasing to how still they can stay with danger around. They just layed there, like yu cant see me, I am invisable.

Just get out a little more in the spring and it will happen again. Today was the 4th time in 3 years for me, but it was the first time I had a camera.

There was someone from our church that had been working on a foundation wall and a doe kept hanging around all day. Sometime in the afternoon they found a fawn curled up next to a footing in an area they had not been working in. If I remember right, they had to take down some of the forms they had set and by the next morning it had found it's way out.

I have seen this a few time. The last time was last year when i was turkey hunting. I made a crow call in the morning to get a turkey to gobble and immediately a doe charged me only 30 yards away and started snorting at me. I immediately knew that she had a fawn nearby and didn't want that noise anywhere near it. In order not to disturb it i went around but on the way back out a few hours later in nearly stepped on the little bugger in the tall grass. It just laid there motionless so i put my hand close to it to show the size of him and used the disposable camera i had in my backpack to snap the photo. I only use that camera for animals i harvest so it is not quite full but when it is i will post them immediately.

Great shots!

I was laying on the ground about three feet in front of them. I had to reach out and move some brush out of the way to get a pic.
Mom was close by and kept a watchful eye, I believe she was trying to lead me away from her fawns.
I could have, but did not, touch them.
