Returned home from Montana at 2:00 am, drove strait through from Sheridan, WY. We had an awsome time and all of us scored on great bucks. I took almost 500 pics while over there and will post some tomorrow if I get a chance. Here is a pic of the first buck dropped on the first day over there. We forgot to pack the camera so didn't get any pics of this one while in the field but took a couple in the back of the car.
-
Nice!! Definately lookin' forward to seeing more of that.
-
Nice buck. Can't wait to see pic's.
-
Okay we are heading to Cabelas for lunch, I have a craving for an elk deli sammy :P I will post some more pics when I get back but until then, here is a buck we missed. Shot right under the belly at 40 yards, then again at 45 yards. This should keep you in suspense till I get back online. ;)
-
What weapon?
-
We were trying to get everything archery hunting for the first couple days but then turned to rifles the rest of the time. Here is the same buck from the side.
-
oops, lets try that again.
-
Here is the second buck we got. He has pretty good mass, 5 1/2" bases.
-
This is the 3rd buck dropped on our trip. 35-40 mph gusts made us crawl up within 105 yards to make sure of a good shot. I stayed back and took pics while Jim and Waid made the stock. After Jim dropped him they drug it to the truck, I got out and walked to the back and saw Jim stnding there with his pants down in 25 degree temps blus wind. I asked him what he was doing and Waid started laughing. It seems Jim crawled through a cactus during the stock, he was picking the 20 or so needles he had in his thigh :chuckle:
-
Here is my buck. We made a long stock on this deer only to have his does bust us and they all shot strait down a draw at full speed. I dropped to a knee, steadied the 7mm on my sticks, and squeezed. He took a nose dive at full speed and tumbled the rest of the way to the bottom of the draw. When we got to him he had broken off his right side main beam and G4, and chipped his left side brow tine. Hes still a nice wide buck and will go nicely with the spuds and gravy.

Great job thanks for posting the pictures. I take it they were in the rut over there. Must have been private land you were hunting. I hunted down by there one time on a guy ranch I met a couple years before that. Congrats again
-
We hunt a 24,000 acre ranch south of Miles City that a friend owns. Yes they were rutting hard even though it was 71 degrees for several days we were there. The bucks had their noses buried the entire time.
-
Good job!! I wish I went that way!!!!
-
Awesome bones there huntnphool. Great pics! Souds lie you guys had a blast.
-
Thanks guys, we had a blast. We had several hundred deer to look at each day. Every morning we got out there it was like someone hit the refresh button over night, there were several new bucks to check out and pattern. Here are a couple more we looked over.
-
and a couple more......
-
Nice bucks and pics. That sunset is bitchin! Glad to see you had a good trip.

"Those are all quality deer, i would keep on the good side of your buddy who owns that ranch."
No worries, I'm a lock ;) Here is another we turned down.

-
Rob, great job on those bucks and the pics are great! it's gonna be hard to keep me off your tail next year! ... I should have listened to you it wont happen next year guaranteed!!!! Nice post thanks for the story and pics.
-
BTW Happy Birthday Rob!
-
Thanks MB, lets hope we draw again next year. Here is pic of a "super forky" How wide do you suppose he is?
-
I'd say 19-20 inches give him a couple of years!
And a thought on next year at least I'd be bringing something to the table I think I have 2 or 3 points!
-
it's all luck I know a guy thats drawn every year the past 6 years.
-
2 points should be a lock, 3 points "forgetaboutit' :IBCOOL: Here is another we will have to look at next year..............rf
-
Here is another nice buck we got on, any ideas what he will score?
-
Damn, I hate it when I do that......
-
Great pictures
-
184 6/8???
I'm a newbie score guesser.
-
Jackelope, your probably closer than you might think.....................rf
-
what area in Montana were you at? I take it this is private property
-
I'm no master scorer, but when you are missing eyeguards it kills the score. My guess 176". (on the high side)
-
Dang....for some reason I can see all the pictures but of that one.
-
Awesome pictures!! Just a great area for deer!
How come we don't see that last buck with one of you guys sittin' behind it? Great deer! I'd say definately 180-185". Love that little kicker point.
-
Hey Sky, it is SE Montana, 95% of which is private. Heres another little guy.
-
same buck.....
-
Nice pictures Hunt!! I hunted over there near Custards last stand on a ranch run by my friend brother in law. I didn't see any real enormous bucks but some decent sized ones. Great pics thanks again for posting..
-
Hey Sky, "you've got mail"
-
Field photos
-
Hunt how many acres is that ranch you hunt on near Decker? Nice deer big body. I shot a 3 point over there that was huge in the body but was an older 3 point past his prime.
-
Hey Sky, the ranch is a total of 24,000 acres right now but will probably be a little larger next year I'm told.
Did you get some pics of that 3 point? We saw some absolute toads that were 3 points as well. One I put around the 30" mark. I was only able to get to a about 800 yards so my pics are not the best but here is one that I really liked, he should go about 26". I was hoping Luke was going to make it over and try for this guy but he didn't make it.
-
that thing is a hawg...didn't miss any meals...thats for sure.
-
Your right Jackelope, not bad for a 3, of course he has nice brow tines too, so most would call him a 4.
-
Yep nice buck too Hunt!! I will have to dig out my pictures. Its amazing over there how you see tons of small 2-points and spikes then the rut comes on and the bigger boys start comming out of the woowork. Were you able to go over there and hunt some prarie Ghosts? I shot one over there.
-
Finally got a pic from one of my buddies cameras. Another nice Montana buck.
-

the 3 is a tank too, but i was talking about the upside down one with no back legs. :)
thick bodied deer for sure.
-
thats a nice buck! congrats!
-
You have no idea how bad that made me wanna get out in the desert or forest and chase some game around.... but NICE BUCK.
-
Those are some great pics. Nice animals.
-
pic of 3 from the truck bed
-
gawdddd....
they didn't get tangled up, did they?
-
..
-
very cool Dman
-
Thanks for sharing
-
That was just a super whitetail, the doe trotted accross the road in front of us and he was houndogging it after her about 20 feet in front of the rig with another 4pt. withey behind him.
This is a monster elk a guy shot in the breaks when we were there.
-
And one more of a nice buck that was on huntable ground, only problem is he was 150 yards from the ranch house in the safety zone. I think he knew he had a good thing going on right there, especially with the 20 plus does he had.
