The commission released their draft Conservation Policy for the next 25 years and are taking public comment (I know, I know...). Some scary stuff in it. I am currently trying to digest it all before making my comments, but the language in the first section seems to be straight from the playbook of the Center for Biological Diversity.
The draft can be found here. https://wdfw.wa.gov/sites/default/files/2023-04/conservation-policy-draft-15-publicreview-final.pdf
The comment form is located here. https://publicinput.com/draftconservationpolicy

Why is social science a factor in determining fishing and hunting? Does that overrule actual science based off F&W bios?
-
"the Center for Biological Diversity." quote from Torrent
They should be named, The Center for Doing Away With Hunting! They are the biggest threat to hunting and Conservation.
As Dr Fauci is to Covid, CBD is to Conservation! Just another group of "political" Scientist, who don't accept FACTS or REAL science.
-
Isn't conservation in the Webster's dictionary.
-
I have not read it, but will. I would like to read some thoughts on potential problems. This is certainly some inside baseball stuff... and I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to redefine what conservation is.
-
IMO the Commission should be taken to task for wasting time and resources writing this. RCW 77.04.012 spells out their mandate in clear terms. This is an attempt to obfuscate that clear directive, so that they can go off on their own agenda.
-
Everyone should comment and make their voice heard. It is really easy to comment and the more comments that oppose this the better.
-
Comment: "In Section 4 of the principles, it states: "Knowledge and science — WDFW actions and decisions shall be based on objective, science-based knowledge. Scientific efforts to inform the WDFW must be sufficiently broad and multi-disciplinary, combining all related scientific fields (e.g., biological, ecological, economic, and social). Adaptive management is a critical and required step to implement actions learned from monitoring the decisions and actions against the results. Adaptive management thus informs necessary changes to meet the desired outcomes." Why then did the Wildlife Commission permanently end the spring bear season when retaining it was the recommendation of the biologists on the ground? Why were comments supporting the season not listened to by Lorna Smith? This is counter to the 4th Principle."

Ya got to remember that nowadays there are Doc’s and scientists that state men can have babies, and other amazing ‘facts’ they come up with.
I am pretty sure a person could say nearly anything and mine up ‘facts’ to support any claim a person would want to make to support an agenda.
It seems pretty clear what path this State is veering toward.
-
This proposal is riddled with loopholes that allow them to cancel opportunity for any reason they please. This whole idea of this being the guiding document of our wildlife agency makes me want to vomit.
"Scientific efforts to inform the wdfw must be sufficiently broad and multi-disciplinary, combining all related scientific fields(e.g. biological, ecological, economic, and social)."
Sorry you can't hunt deer this year because we haven't run enough economic studies and our social science says we don't like it. This document is a true conservation tragedy.

Everyone needs to go in and make a comment. Make yourself heard its easy

If policies are going to be driven by “social science” does that mean wolves can identify as coyotes and us state residents can start to identify as tribal hunters?

Of course it does. Why would that logic not apply to wolves like the rest of our society. I sure know our country will never have another successful draft. As long as women are not eligible for the draft I am sure we will all identify as women if and when one comes up. They’ve already proven we don’t have to have any of the correct anatomy whatsoever so why would a wolf? For that matter I could probably go shoot a moose and say it was identifying as a coyote. Since our kids get to decide it their pets or toasters or whatever that they decide they feel like that day Then I don’t see a problem with that at all
-
They are doing this because they see no risk involved with their actions. It may not always be this way.
-
section 6, "precaution" is a dangerous one. Smith and Rowland have both used this strategy already, is essentially what stopped our spring bear hunt. They argue that there is not enough data to support something, we we need to err on the side of caution.
"we don't know EXACTLY how many bears there are, so we better not hunt them in the spring"

DO NOT MISS THIS AND NOT MAKE COMMENTS!!!
Tell every one you know. Get the word out. We need to flood the WDFW with comments on this proposal. We all know it's a bunch of hogwash filled with climate change scare tactics, and hyperbole. This needs to be shot down in it tracks. The anti's are coming hard with this, and trust me, there will be a lot of "pro-change the WDFW" comments given to fit the anti-hunting/animal rights narrative.
Be ready, be informed, and make good comments. We have to band together on this!

These groups rarely care what the comments say. The only way to get them to listen is to remove them from their position of power. Just look how most every advisory vote says to remove the tax and yet none ever get removed.
Until you can find a way to ensure that liberals don’t get automatically re-elected to their positions of power in this state the death spiral will continue no matter how many comments you leave.
You must get liberals to stop voting for these people! And get your friends in the unions to stop voting democrat!

You are probably right but I feel if I make no comment then there is zero chance they will listen. So I continue to make my voice heard. Small loud opposition has been screaming louder and it seems to be working. If there is zero opposition then I fear it will get even worse then it already is.
-
One and done!
Left comments last nite.
Ya not holding my breath on this new policy crap.
You guys should read the comments, pretty funny I thought.
-
Oh ya ,two month comment period.
Let's make it two years already.
Give plenty of time for the anti-hunters to chime in.
-
The law requires a comment period but it does not require them to even review the comments.
Several years back I commented on the proposed hunting rule changes and even went 1 step further and attended the in person comment session in Tacoma. I asked what the online comments said on the issues and I was told there were over 50,000 comments so it wasn’t practical to review them all.
If you want to be heard go to the in person event and find the individual that has an open mind (if there is one) and get several people to keep telling them the same thing. Next you need to make sure you get something that could go viral to happen or get someone to say something that is controversial on tape to bring their credibility into question.
This is the way the liberals do it to get proposals that are not even supported by the majority through. And always claim you are a democrat that votes when asked!
-
PLEASE EVERYONE NEEDS TO COMMENT! Send to your family, friends, conservation groups, community's, churches, etc.
If this goes into affect our fishing and hunting seasons are gone, not only the commission, but anyone or group with nefarious intentions can get seasons canceled on technicalities.
I know many of you will say that happens now, which you are not wrong, but passing this is letting the flood gates open. We will all dream of the good old days before 2023.
When submitting comments keep them professional. If you are stuck in rant mode just put something simple like “Do not approve” or “Do not adopt”.
