I'm planning my first week long hunting trip, and I'm looking for ideas on managing the trash. We will be dispersed camping for Muzzleloader Elk. Normally, we burn the paper and hang on to the rest for a few days and dump in town. What does everyone else do?

For us, a week of camping usually doesn't accumulate more than maybe one big garbage bag of trash that we just bring back with us when we leave. Being out in the woods all day, our trash is normally just zip lock bags, wrappers, plastic silverware etc.

We run into town at least once for supplies and pay the gas station to let us dump a bag if we need to.

Burn all paper, plastic, aluminum cans and food waste. With big enough campfires, we would melt down glass. Haul out glass blobs, non-aluminum cans, etc. We used the campfire to keep a very clean camp. Someone would often be picking up little scraps of paper.
LT Murray provides a large dumpster just outside of the elk gate, which was used.

Same as Vandeman, I just don't ever have that much trash. Even if we're not burning any of it with a fire every day.

I had to think, I guess I have never thought too much about it. Put it in a garbage bag and dump in a rest area on the way home.

Little tougher on the early hunts because of the fire restrictions, you can't burn a lot of it. Guess we've always figured if we got it there, we can get it out of there. Usually just bring the bag or bags of garbage home for disposal.

A week’s trip doesn’t make much trash. A lot less than people think. We do all of the meal prep at home and freeze it before the trip. That right there eliminates probably 90% of the trash. It also leaves a lot more time for hunting, fishing or whatever you’re out there to do.

Get rid of as much of the trash before hand as you can. Take things out of bags and boxes. Use ziplocks and Tupperware. A garbage bag or 2 is always there for everything you couldn’t get rid of beforehand. Precooking meals is always really nice but it’s also fun to cook a meal over a fire or in camp. Can’t say I’m a big fan of burning plastic so I just try not to bring much with me if I can avoid it.

A lot of trash just depends on how you plan to camp...revolves mostly around what you eat and drink, clean up with. I reuse as many items as possible, and if burning is permitted, burn the paper items and other stuff that burns low and can be put out quickly. I bring a lot of water to help with the rinsing to reuse. If I have cans, crush down and a standard kitchen garbage bag works.

Guess we've always figured if we got it there, we can get it out of there. Usually just bring the bag or bags of garbage home for disposal.
Usually end up with one or two extra bags from slobs..
