Back when i was little my dad always took us to his elk camp near elk heights.
They had a HUGE wall tent that i just really loved camping out of when we went to elk camp.
my brother and i got talking this weekend about maybe looking into getting one.
does anyone know where i can go LOCALLY to look at one?
i have done some research and havnt found anyone locally that does them.
we are not looking for a huge huge one but i thought i would ask you you guys for some advice.
thanks

There was a tent thread on here if you did a search. Probably Cabelas, one guy got a nice one out of Oregon. For the price you would pay and sales tax it might be worth the drive.
-
thank you i will go look at that one...
-
wow im sold on the Cabela's Deluxe Alaknak™ II Tent
pretty nice looking for the money and its on sale right now.
-
ya the alaknak is a good tent. I got the Big Horn 3 cause I didnt like the center pole in the alanak but basically same tent.
-
anything from yakima tent co is high quality, ranier industries also very good located in kent.

:yeah: I've got the Alaknak and wished I had known about the Big Horn tent you have. The Alaknak's center post is a pain in the arse.
BWB- Check in the back of the hunting regs in the products directory, there are usually some companies that advertise in there that make heavy canvas wall tents. I think there's a company in Milton Freewater, Oregon that makes them?
-
ok thanks
ill check out the big horn...
other than the center pole are you happy with the alk.
out of those two which one do you prefer?
-
I got mine from Rainier Ind in Tukwilla.
It has been a great tent for us.

Kwik Kamp in Milton Freewater Or.

The Alaknak worked very well for the two hunting seasons I used it before buying a trailer. I have all the extras for it like the floor liner, vestibule and roof panel protector for the stove jack and it all stood up to snowy and windy conditions very nicely. The first stove I had (can't remember if it was Cabela's sheepherder Packer or Alaskan model; I ended up trading it for other camping gear) was too small and wouldn't last through the night so next year I got their Hunter model cylinder stove which worked great. I took pictures of the tent interior, I'll look for them and try to post.

Here are some pics of the tent...

We did it up more deluxe in 2004 in addition to the better wood stove we added hardwood flooring and a coffee maker :chuckle: :IBCOOL:

Salem Tents in Salem, OR. Internal frame tent is easy to set up and there are only two minor issues. One, condensation forms on the poles inside. Two, it needs a bigger section around the stove pipe opening as our tent has quite a few burn holes. Luckily we hunt the east side so we don't need to worry about rain ;)
Other than that, it's a great tent and would recommend to anybody.

Bravo tents are just out of Vancouver, The best design, materials, and workmanship, great tents.

Have you looked at any military surplus tents? They work awesome.

They work alright if you want to use a lantern during daylight hours. We used to use them all the time for deer season, but if you get decent wall tent with the aluminum frame it makes setting up really nice and if you happen to be inside during the day for some reason you don't need artificial light.
-
Check out a NW original. Canvas Cabins. Top Quality, made in Oregon by a great guy. I don't own one but have used them on several hunts, including spring bear in AK where it rained a lot.

That I would not know about, since we only used ours for elk season, and we left before daylight and would not get back till well after dark unless we got meat down, and got back early. Then we would be so pumped up, there was no going in the tent to relax or whatever. We had windows in our military tents, never used them either.

Canvas Cabins, Hillsboro, Oregon - can't go wrong, made in the NW.
-
BRAVO tents are the best. We looked at every tent we could find and nobody could match his quality and customer service. his prices are good to.

Definetly go with a bravo wall tent. Easy to put up and will last you a life time. Marine grade canvas and heavy duty brass zippers. Just as good as the tent is a good stove. :twocents:

Thanks guys! im pickin a small one up on sunday and we are gonna wait on a big one till next year i think...
-
Hey backwoods_boy
Did you check out Davis Tents?
They have a June special on tents.... I just bought one from them. Very easy to deal with and a high quality tent.... More affordable than other places I looked...
-
I have a davis 14x16 fire water and mildo treated tent with a window on the back wall, screen door, colorado flaps and a ridge barrel stove to keep us toasty warm.Davis has a lot of good info on canvas material. Its a must read before you buy. With 50 years of experiance.I called them and got exactly what I wanted. Great tent and stove Bill
-
yeah we are going to look into them more.
we both really want to get a nice one but might wait till next year and even though i would much rather be in a wall tent my dad would be hard to drag from his home away from home.

my brother and i are going to get a smaller one for now then look into a big wall tent for future hunting seasons.
-
We have a small Bravo tent. We have the big army tents but needed a small tent for 2-4 guys. He can biuld anything you want. I can set up this tent my self or with my wife for the weekend. I can't remember the exact size but it is about 14'x16' I think. I wouldn't want one smaller unless I was going to pack it in.
They had smaller tents. You won't find a better tent and the prices are good. It will last you a life time if you take care of it.

Backwoodsboy, You'd prefer a wall tent over a nice camp trailer?
