Title: First Compound Bow Setup_Suggestions
Post by: jaredwitman on May 19, 2023, 03:16:34 PM: I have rifle hunted all my life. A few opportunities have come up and I am looking to expand my horizons.

I have spoke with friends but I figured I would get some more opinions on what I should be after. I know nothing about compound bows... feel free to school me.

I don't really have a budget but I am not looking to spend over 1000 on the bow alone. If I could get lucky and spend 1000 on everything (arrows/quiver/trigger/etc.) I would be happy. I'm not against spending more but maybe I don't have to on my first set up?

Any thoughts? All opinions are welcome.

Lots of good slightly used bows for sale for a great price. As for which bow it’s up to personal preference. Go to a bow shop and shoot a couple different brands.

I had a mathews switchback for years and bought a diamond infinite edge at Sportsmans for a backup
Spent around $400 bucks full setup (no arrows or broadheads)
Sold the Mathews and kept the Diamond
Lightweight & shoots great

You could get a full setup for $1000 or likely under. Also as mentioned I would suggest going to a shop and shooting some different bows to see what you like. I personally prefer a long ATA bow as I find them more stable at draw then short ATA bows. I would consider 33"+ long ATA. But that is personal preference. Short ATA bows are nicer to tote around in the hills/brush all day long.

second for the diamond infinite edge. I have one and it is awesome. You can adjust it from 5 lbs up to 70 lbs and adjust the draw weight and length at home. Highly recommend as a first setup. PM me if you need any help I just went through all of this and can tell you where I got screwed.

This is solid advice. I’d also recommend a longer ATA bows are going to be more forgiving of a setup.

IMO stay away from bows like the the diamond edge; they’re designed for kids/teenagers to start out in archery and grow with them. I’m assuming you’re an adult and don’t need this.

Last don’t go cheap on your release. Carter, spot Hogg wise guy, Scott all make good releases
