looking at the draw dates since 2009. The 8th was the earliest. Th 21st was the latest. The average of all those years was the 13th. The only question is now what do i do with my time while I wait?
But the date they need to be submitted wasn't the same for those years so the average date isn't necessarily equal weighted. The Average time between submission and posted dates is a touch over 3 weeks. At least since 2012.

I looked at last year's thread and the day the points and the special permits sections were gone was the day they drew. Now we just need the special hunt permits and wins section to be removed and then we will be off to the races.

My buddy who works at wdfw said tomorrow is the draw for them. Next week is the draw for everyone else for what’s left over.WDFW employees are now n the same draw as everyone else. There is an incentive permit drawing for hunter education instructors that happens earlier in the year.

I’m just going about my life not worried about the draw this year. If I pull a tag I’ll figure it out. If not I’ll just stick with my current plan. Hunt September, October, November and December all on the east side.I’m right there with you. Except add August to the list for bear season. And a deer tag in Montana and Idaho. Long gone are the days when I'd check the website multiple times a day (10 years ago or more), talk or text with hunting partners, and daydream for weeks thinking "This is the year" that I'm going to get drawn for _Blank___. Instead, for the last 10 years or so, I've sensed a trend that there's a correlation between WDFW's management philosophy of trying to cater to special interest groups that are the minority in population but carry the majority of the Gov's Ear...This is strikingly similar to how the Fed operates in a macro way (increased spending, with limited accountability, shrinking opportunity, and a disconnect with constituents..all from my POV of course). I sure hope this isn't deemed "too political"..I apologize. It's just why I'm not as jacked up about the draw as I used to be :(
Obviously, I figured out years ago that it's a suckers bet...but I've blown WAY MORE $$ on dumber things! Here's what I've got for 27 years of Gamblin'.....My cousin and I got drawn for Selkirk Moose tags in '06 and I shot a good bull, he killed a little one (I don't know what he was thinking..I wasn't there for his). Just for that moose, it's all been worth it!! The same cousin and I were drawn partners in 2003 for Peaches Ridge Modern Rifle Bull tag. General Season (week before and general season). My cousin ended up killing a nice 6x6 and I ate my tag. I passed up bulls I should have killed, but I had a great hunt. We stopped putting in together eventually, and in 2019 I was finally drawn for the deer unit I'd been wanting for the majority of the years. Mission Rifle with max points. I hunted 17/20 days, and I was pretty bummed about the minimal amount of quality deer I saw. I never took the safety off during that time as I never saw a buck I wanted to shoot. I really put my time in, as I live in the unit, but the weather surely didn't cooperate either (no snow, lady bugs & butterflies flying @ 5000' on 11/15). The herd was definitely depleted though, as I was furnished with plenty of local knowledge and the mature bucks were missing plus the predator sign was evident. Never-the-less, the hunt was the most fun I've had hunting mule deer in WA (& the only time in my life besides a muzzleloader doe hunt as a kid)
Every year I snivel and whine like 99.8% of us "not-selected" ones, but I've got a moose. Alot of folks don't...I tell myself that. Also, the year after my Mission buck hunt I killed the biggest of my life during general season in the Douglas County wheat fields. So, you don't always have to get a "special permit" to get a Special critter..gettin' lucky can happen anywhere. Way off topic...sorry.

I was going to mention the personal strife theory that can be associated with drawing a quality special permit that one sometimes loops into the equation, but I figured I had to cut-off my wandering diatribe somewhere. For many of us who have been diligent supporters of the system, finally "earning" or being "selected" means that we have paid a sort of "penance" to explain the unfathomable odds of WINNING a tag.
The year I was drawn for a WA Moose, my personal life had been turned upside down with a divorce, so at least something good happened that year. When we had the Peaches Ridge Bull tag our Grandfather passed (albeit a GREAT life at 95yo). In 2014, my Uncle passed so my other Cousin put in for ID Moose in 2015 (1st Time) and was drawn and killed a good bull. In 2015 my dad passed, so I put in for ID Moose in 2016 and was also drawn for the same unit (and killed a good bull too). Of course, these events are just circumstantial, but they make for good conversation and conjecture (like I'm doing now...rather than working on my irrigation this morning :chuckle: )

Usually they take the special hunt options down in the morning, and results are officially posted mid to late afternoon is how it’s been.

My points went up by one on quality elk
My quality elk also went up one point, but that was the only category where I did the Points Only option this year. Categories that I actually put in for hunts hasn’t changed yet.

The muzzy hunt is a super fun hunt. I have taken a couple cows out of one of those units with muzzy. My hunting partner drew a muzzy cow hunt for just one of the units so we will be up there so he can get after a fat cow. :tup:

No draws will hopefully give me the time to kill two bears, maybe a cougar if I can call one in and see it before it sees me this time, or at least a pile of coyotes

Seen a COUGAR yesterday.
Jump the highway,on my way home from work.
Seen a deer eating in the ditch,came around the corner.
Is that a golden retriever crossing,then as I got closer and seem the big long tail.
It crossed like walking low as it could to the pavement.
Then it got to the dirt on my side of the road and fully stood up ,with that long tail and black tip.
I was 100% it was a COUGAR.
Anyway just thought I would say ,there are more than WDFW says.
There out there,that's for sure.

Ya it's ironic,but also just the nature of the beast.
Every year it's like that. I did try one time to help a moose tag holder.
Anyway I did send them GPS coordinates,to a clear cut that I had been seeing a moose in on the daily. I did see crows circle few days later.
Not sure if it was the person I helped.
But not a thank you or anything.
If I blast the forum with trail cam pics,I'll get PM asking for help.
Which deep down I'd like to help. But if you do your decent hunting spot is ruined forever.
I think it's great if someone wants to give info of some access points,or point someone in the general direction. It's awesome and the tag holder can do the work themself.
But after being on the forum and making a few mistakes.

28 years, 28 points for quality and bull catagory, didn’t apply for one rifle rut tag, archery and a bull hunt that only has around 800 applicants. Nothing, blanked. So discouraging, another year , another let down.

That combined with lower numbers adds up to really bad odds for draws that used to be somewhat reasonable.

This is the attitude more should have. :tup: :tup: :tup: My hunting buddy and I are super excited to set up the wall tent for 12-14 days and hunt elk with my son. He is the one that drew the youth tag and it will be his first elk (assuming we find one) and we are just super happy to spend that time in the woods (and wall tent) on a fun hunt. Trophy is all in the eye of the beholder....and I'm sure my son will be on cloud nine if he is afforded the opportunity to drop the hammer a big fat cow.
You guys sound like you will have a great hunt. Good friends spending time in the woods is priceless.

I was not selected in 10 draws….. I put my dad in for 14 draws, not selected in all of those too. WDFW blows!
4 family members in all categories with loads of points in each and didn’t draw a one…don’t think you are alone!
