-
I was pretty happy with the draw results before they took the lunch break yesterday. I really enjoy the Whidbey second doe tag and it seems like these last few years it is no longer a guarantee. The feeling of packing a shotgun through tight brush and passing on bucks while hoping nobody shoots at you is an intense feeling after chasing alpine mule deer. Top it off with my first ever “bull elk” tag and I was set for the season.
Like everyone else of rational mind I knew my 19 points didn’t really mean much for OIL tags and my choices for “quality tags” were similar. I would like to thank the WDFW for their hard work on the draws this year. You have proven yourself to run a wonderful program and after putting in a fair amount of effort on both of our ends, rewarded my loyalty to the draw system.
-
I got the Derek Jeter gift basket.

Selkirk bull moose tag for me. I was excited when I saw it, but instantly felt a little overwhelmed as well!

I know there are more of you lucky SOB’s out there…

Half the tags in the book are basically once in a lifetime. Good luck to everyone that drew.

I’ll be your SOB :chuckle: more then excited to still see early huckleberry moose on my phone screen can’t wait until the actual tag is in my hand, it’s been great reading everyone’s success stories on here over the years and dreaming of the year it may become a reality and I’m still in disbelief. I’ve spent a lot of years hunting whitetail and turkeys in the huckleberry primarily in the northern half reservations are booked for scouting to start diving in deeper and learn the unit for moose. Best of luck to the other tag holders.
-
I drew the other Chelan Butte A bighorn sheep tag. Drew quality buck too. Joined the forum because I saw the other tag holder was here
-
I got the Derek Jeter gift basket.
This is funnier than most people know.
-
I drew one of the muzzy Rimrock quality elk tags. Any have any advice on the area I’d appreciate a message.

Are you sure you hunted huckleberry.
The river and reservation is the border of the unit to the west.
The north half reservation is in 101.
There is no booking to start scouting.
Good luck .

Bull tag, doing some research on calling I’ve played with them a bit but never in a situation that was serious I have oct 9-15th off then back again the 23rd-29th if need be. Hoping to catch some rut action, not sure how much general deer season will affect them when it starts on the 14th can imagine it will push them farther off the roads which is fine as long as I can locate them. Likely will be the only opportunity I get to hunt moose in my lifetime so I want to make the most of the experience

Moose calling is really where it's at. Your best chance to call one in is your early October dates in my opinion. A bull will cover some serious ground to get to a cow in heat. During the rut, the bulls will breed a cow (usually 24-72 hours) and then move till he finds another cow. If you get a bull that is grunting but is cowed up, and you can't seal the deal, stay with it the next day and the bull will eventually break free and come to your calls. As with every animal, play the wind as their noses are their best defense. Moose have piss poor eyesight....and a moose would just assume stomp you into the dirt than run when threatened.
If you would like pointers on calling....let me know. I have been around many very proficient callers and have called in half dozen moose in my short 5 years of moose hunting. I called in my son's moose last year and if I had the means.....would be moving to Canada where I could hunt moose yearly. Man moose hunting is a hoot. Good luck.

I’ll absolutely take you up on any tricks, tips and info your willing to share, it’s great to watch YouTube videos and hunting shows but with so much condensed into short clips you don’t really get the whole scenario. Just like calling any other species they all have their quirks that take multiple encounters to learn to read the situation when to be aggressive, when to back off, how long to blind call with no response before moving on? I would be greatful for any experience you’re able to share to help me be successful. Thanks

Heck ya.
Bull tag is where it's at.
I may know a few spots to look for one.
Yes ,rifle deer starting on the 14th ,may effect your hunt a tiny bit.
Should still be able to find one in the pumpkin patch zoo.
Took this pic ,with my cell ,at about 40 yards. Last year, durring deer season.
Plenty of smaller ones around ,like the one pictured.
If your looking for that OIL ,just monster giant bull moose may take some looking to find him.

Thanks hunter399 I’m open to check out any areas you might be willing to share, I have spent quite a bit of time deer and Turkey hunting in the unit but primarily in the northern half from addy to kettle, I know the southern half seems to have a higher concentration just need to put in the miles to find the best access points and activity between now and when the hunt starts so I can make the most of the days I will have during the hunt. Thanks

If you need any help before deer season starts.
Just pm me. I'm on here almost daily.
Deer season hits ,I'll be busy most likely.
The spot I sent you in pm is a complete zoo after deer season starts.
Just thought I'd let you know that in advance.

I drew 2023 49 degree north late moose hunt .Eskimo
My buddy drew the same tag, should be an awesome hunt!
-
Calling moose is a pretty amazing experience. I remember one bull we called in I almost had to shoot in self defense. He was ticked, slobbering everywhere and staring down at us from the bank above the road 20 feet away. It was a RUSH!!!!

That’s the experience I’m looking for to be ran over by a jacked up bull, tempted to have my bow close just in case the stars align and I get in the right situation
-
My good buddy drew wenaha goat in Oregon he’s 63 and trying to figure out our best option to get him his once in a lifetime animal, and thoughts or recommendations are appreciated
-
I drew the sheep tag for the quillome I am so excited

Go over to Ifish and get on the Hunting page and ask around. Some very helpful, knowledgeable people there!
-
I drew the sheep tag for the quillome I am so excited
This should be a great hunt. Hope you share your experience with us. Good luck.
-
I drew Douglas A Late Bull Moose... Unreal seeing the words "Selected" next to that hunt.
-
I have a bull tag. Considering it was 18 pts, oil isnt just moose/sheep/goat anymore.
-
Congrats everyone I drew 49 deg early in 2019 so if anybody needs help with it let me know
-
I drew the sheep tag for the quillome I am so excited
Congratulations!! Thats the only sheep tag I try for. It would be unreal to know the feeling of having that tag. Please let us follow you on the hunt! Good luck. If you dont have one, secure a reliable ATV...you'll need one!!
-
I hoped someone who had the tag before might give me a heads up but nothing yet but will make several trips ovuer there this summer.

Still dreaming of a sheep tag.........
couple things to think about,
Some folks hunt from a boat for access, and, the unit goes more North than a lot think about.
-
I had the Quilomene Ram tag in 2008. My advice is make the most out of it you can because if you are like most of us it will be the only sheep hunt you will ever go on. I spent countless days scouting it and many more days hunting off the 4 wheeler and getting to the ridges then hiking down towards the river to look for the sheep. There was not a single day that I didn’t find sheep. Also met a great guy who lived across the river over near Crescent Bar and he could see a lot of the area from his back deck and absolutely loved looking for sheep. We talked every day while I was hunting and shared what we were seeing (he was also my first phone call when I had my ram down). When I finally decided I was ready to notch a tag, I hauled my boat down there and found one I liked and the rest is history. Is a fairly simple hunt from the boat but there was no way I wanted it over in 1 day!
-
That's great information we plan on going over a few times before the hunt I don't want it to be over to soon either. We hunted deer there before and remember how rough the roads were.
-
If you have access to a side by side or a couple of 4 wheelers it’s definitely the way to go. Can cover a lot more ground!
-
And if you have a boat, there is a public launch at Crescent bar. Just cross the river and head towards Vantage and spend time glassing the bluffs. Or I was also able to spot sheep by driving down towards Sun land estates and glassing across the river
-
We have boats and four wheelers just getting the tag has had me reading every sheep article I could find I have seen sheep by the river by vantage but have never seen a ram before.h
-
Eskimo Bull moose 49 degree north late
-
We went scouting and saw some nice sheep on the old Malaga road but they were on private land. Next trip we are going to try glassing from the boat
-
Who's looking for a moose..... :chuckle:
-

The mouth of tarpiscan, on the south side in the cliffs is known to hold some big rams
-
I will sure look there I will check my maps to see where that is thanks for the help
-
If we use a four wheeler how do you find where the roads are to get into there. Think we will start at vantage so hope someone can let me know how to find the access roads
-
That spot is much easier to access by boat.
-
121 early bull moose. 23 points
-
121 early bull moose. 23 points
Heck ya!!
That will be a good hunt.
-
All packed up for my sheep hunt it looks like the weather is cooling down a lot. We took a disabled friend on his mud flow hunt and he got a nice five point. We have been messaging with the biologist and getting some information from some past tag holders. Hope I get one and have stories and pictures for everyone. Wish me good luck.
-
sent you a pm
-
GMU 111 Aladdin early Bull Moose. 17 points.
Spent the summer scouting with my 13 year old son and hopefully we have a memorable hunt together.
Good luck to everyone on there hunts this year.
-
Seen a dang big moose in 49 the other day.
There out there
Good luck guys.
-
I had an awesome sheep hunt I got a nice ram the first day it was a special time with my son and grandson we saw eighty sheep yesterday many were up in the cliffs where you couldn't get to we saw a lot from the boat tomorrow we get it recorded.
-
Hope everyone is having good luck.
Hear some updates soon about some awesome oil hunts.
October just started,so there has to be some moose taking a dirt nap real soon.
