My cousin and I threw in for east side cow tags after getting multi season. Looking at the Malaga hunt, I thought it was gonna be around 35-40% public land, pretty country, and a chance to do some late mule deer hunting to the north over Thanksgiving week. Trying to read the boundaries it seems like I need to be a lawyer. Anyone willing to offer some advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you have Onyx you can turn on elk units and it will show you the boundaries.

Sometimes I struggle a bit with tech stuff. I got all the Washington state filters turned on but didn’t see any elk area filter, does show the gmu’s tho. Is there a different spot on onX to turn this function on. I like on x a lot more than base maps.

The wife and daughter had the tag a few times so I just made a map on OnX my self…

Thank you, got it figured now. Had to go into Washington hunt units and open up the options. How did they do on those hunts if you don’t mind me asking?

I dont know how to read onyx, but there is a lot of private land inside that purple circle.

And the elk stay on private pretty much all the time. It would be best to start knocking on some doors.

I was afraid they might hold up on public land. It’ll still be a fun adventure though. Might go to the north a bit and hunt deer if the elk hunting doesn’t pan out. If anyone knows any property owners that just want to thin the heard, we would bring a tarp and get it out guts feather and all.

There are elk on public land, its not an easy hunt, but they are there. Some logging going on within the area, so that may move things around a bit.

The only elk i could find were right where the local WDFW biologist suggested i focus my attention. Give em a call

Here is data from the 2022 modern firearm hunts as published by WDFW.

Thank you everyone for the help, gonna try to get ahold of the bio. I’ve got a lot of goo info so far.
Thanks again, Jeremiah

I would definitely go in and talk to some of the orchard managers. I'm sure you could find a few who would gladly let you hunt.
