Title: Wild Berries
Post by: andrew_in_idaho on June 24, 2023, 05:34:44 PM: Found some white mulberries growing wild recently, and it brought about some questions. Are mulberries common in the NW? Aside from huckleberries what are your other favorite berries to forage in the wild? We ended up picking enough for a couple of pies. Those looked like wild raspberry to me, then I did some googling...

Post by: buckcanyonlodge on June 25, 2023, 04:56:04 AM: Had a huge mulberry tree when I was in Yakima. The starlings would swarm the ripe berries. Every car within blocks of that tree had massive purple crap all over them. Very hard to get off when dried and baked on by the sun.

Post by: geauxtigers on August 24, 2023, 03:09:38 PM: Family and I went out picking huckleberries last weekend. Got a fair amount, but there’s a few large swathes of huckleberry bushes that had dried, shriveled blossoms and no berries. Disappointing

Anyway, we also came across a TON of these berry bushes. I don’t know what they are, and am wondering if anyone here can help. Berries were still pretty firm so I’m hoping they may ripen into something edible and darker…

Mountain Ash Berry, bears like them I’ve noticed latter in the season when the other berries are gone.

Next outing start looking to see if they are being eaten, bears pull down the branches to get at the upper berries breaking them up pretty good.
