Fishing on the east side of ten was good this morning. Two limits of small Coho (3 pounds?) and a nice 10-12 clipped King. All in the upper part of the water column. Going back tomorrow to catch that King again so I can keep it.10 opens up on the 13..not the 12th :tup:

I just looked on the Fish Washington app and noticed that. So Thursday it is. The app just says no retention of Chinook and Chum to June 1 to July 12. There is no mention on the app of it opening July 13. Is this 100% confirmed? The amount of bait and fish we were marking reminded me of Neah Bay. Getting that king today got me excited to get back out.

The thing with the app to be careful with is you can get in pamphlet mode which will often put you on the wrong side of legal.Agree been looking for hard copy’s

Pulled plenty of crab, big ones were soft and the hard ones were 1/16" short of legal. It's almost as if someone had been crabbing the area hard and sorted all the keepers out....
I need to put in some effort to scout out some new crab areas, the old faithful spots are just clobbered before we even get out.

been out at mid channel the last two days with limits for the 3 of us on the boat before 7 30 am both days.

Mid Channel was a lot tougher fishing today. We fished 2 tide changes daylight to about 1:30pm. We did hook 2 fish early on but both came off quickly. Saw maybe 10-12 fish caught for 300+ boats. Fish checker said 1/2 a fish/boat when we came in. That seemed better than what I observed. Fish checker also said Thursday was much better. Good luck out there, tight lines!Fished it for the evening. It was definitely slow, only picked up 1. This morning though was on fire. 5 kings by 7:30.

Chinook salmon retention closed in Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton Area)
Action: Closes retention of Chinook and changes coho daily limit to one (1).
Species affected: Chinook and coho salmon.
Effective dates and locations:
Effective Aug. 4 through Oct. 31, 2023: Marine Area 10, except East Elliott Bay and year-round piers (Bremerton Boardwalk, Illahee State Park Pier, Seacrest Pier, and Waterman Pier).
Effective Aug. 18 through Oct. 31, 2023: East Elliott Bay (Waters of Elliott Bay east of a line from Duwamish Head to Pier 91 up to the mouth of the Duwamish River including Harbor Island.
Rules: Salmon daily limit two (2) including no more than one (1) coho. No minimum size. Release Chinook and chum.
Reason for action: The current estimate of Chinook sublegal encounters for the summer fishery is 9,471 of 7,748 total sublegal encounters (122%) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Therefore, WDFW will close the fishery to Chinook retention.
Additionally, the current estimate of coho catch for the month of July is 11,665 coho. The preseason expected catch of coho in the month of July was 4,810 coho, almost 250% above the expected catch. The retention limit for coho is being reduced to minimize impacts on coho stocks of concern.
Additional information: Year-round piers (Bremerton Boardwalk, Illahee State Park Pier, Seacrest Pier, and Waterman Pier) remain open under permanent rules listed in the 2023/24 Washington Sport Fishing Rules pamphlet.
Anglers can be notified of any Fishing Rule Changes by email, as soon as they are announced, by signing up for rule change notices at https://wdfw.wa.gov/about/lists.

Yeah, it’s a mess. As I understand it, you may keep 1 Coho, either hatchery or wild in 10 and in 8-2. You may keep 2, hatchery only Coho in 9.
So, if you catch a clipped Coho in 10, you may go to 9 and attempt to catch a 2nd clipped Coho. But, if you catch and keep an unclipped Coho in 10, then you are done with Coho. You can’t take an unclipped fish into area 9.

I'd just start in 9 and call it good. Better fish the farther west you go.
As for the closure
The LOAF encounters driving our seasons is a joke. It's going to be the ideal way for DFW to close fishing at a whim..no rhyme or reason for the numbers. Complete SWAG like everything else dfw has their hands in..
