one that was looking to just fill a tag on a bear for the first time and the other wanting a trophy bear.
We landed at camp around 3pm and set up the tents started looking for bears and before we new it we
were looking at 3 bears with one being a good bear but in Alaska we would have to wait till the next day
due to the same day air law. Well we woke early the next day frank started the eggs and I started looking.
I don't think the eggs where done before I spotted the bear we wanted to go after. After little talking
the eggs where put on hold and the hike began. We were looking at 3 miles to get to where we needed to
be. After few hours we set up for the long wait threw the heat of the day. After allot of glass time we moved
up the hill a bit ad there he was just starting to come out of some alders. the wind was good and we had to cut
a couple hundred yards to make a good shot. After about 25 min we were in position and clayton made his shot count!
His bear would square 8-8 and have a skull of 24 inch's not bad for just filling a tag.
Bear number 2 was spotted on the third day of our hunt. Once again the eggs wer on and I was glassing.
This time I spotted a large bear coming down a mountain on the other side of the lake. I yelled at Frank to
come on down to where I was and and we set up the spotting scopes. After a little looking we decided that this was
the bear Darrel was looking for. we loaded packs and the hike began. Now the bear was at the waters edge and on the move
we would have to make it around the lake and hope to cut him off. After about an hour and half it was coming together.
The bear was about 500 yards away and still moving in our direction. We dropped packs and moved into a good shooting area.
Now the wait. It didn't take long for the bear to move in. We wanted him to get as close as possible but that wasn't going to happen
due to the wind. The bear was at 200 yards and Frank caught the wind shifting over our backs and we made the call to shoot.
Darrel lined up his scope and it was over. This bear would square 9-6 and have a B&C skull of 28 9/16 inch's!!
Not a bad hunt. Two bears in just 4 days. We couldn't ask for better weather or better hunters!!
I hope every one else has as good a spring bear hunting as us .

But then again I guess there are big ones just about anywhere you go on the island. Thanks for posting. Makes me want to jump in a beaver with Willie, Dean,or Roland and go fishin.....

Olga bay is a special place! Huge spot shrimp and barnacle covered King crabs! And then there is the huge bear, blacktails and Dog Salmon creek..... I am ready to go right now!!!

And I hope all of you are putting in for some of the great tags that Alaska has. You know it is cheaper then
a non res putting in for WA tags and it really is not that expensive to hunt there.
