My buddy got drawn for a mule deer hunt in unit 39 from August 15-Sep 30. Him and I typically hunt whitetails in Idaho in November and have got that dialed in in the last few years. He’s having a hard time deciding if he should accept his mule deer tag and forfeit the whitetail tag, or decline his mule deer hunt altogether. If anyone has any info on the deer hunting in the unit that would help persuade him either way, he’d appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

He gets drawn what he put in for and now doesn’t know if he wants it? Turn it in and give somebody that actually wants it a chance🤦🏻

Lots of deer, every once in a blue moon there are some big bucks in there

Go whitetail in November. Will be very hot and dry for the drawn hunt.

Unique chance to kill a velvet buck with a rifle. Hunting is pretty short as most of the deer movement will be at first and last light and a lot of HOT time in between with almost nothing going on. I'd have been putting time in finding bucks summer range as they will still be there for the opener in a few weeks. I've had a similar tag and it was a lot of fun.
