Seems like no matter the conditions,them old birds just scratch out a living.
There is one bird around my place that gimps around on one leg.
I know for fact it is from freezing winter temps,standing around like a flamingo.
Tough old bird for sure.

Post by: Rob on August 29, 2023, 12:11:58 PM: I have a group of 2 hens with 18 young, and 1 hen with 5 young roaming around my place in Cocolalla. Definitely more than what I saw last year, but I have only been here a couple years so I don't have much data to go on.

It was a much dryer spring than last year which I would assume has some impact.

Saw these three on August 30th last year! very late hatch for sure. Pretty sure they did not make it.

Post by: ShedHead20 on August 29, 2023, 03:16:27 PM: The wenas valley and surrounding areas have had good hatches as well. Saw two groups of hens and poults the other day, all poults where large and there were about 8-12 poults with each hen.

I have also been seeing more blue grouse than usual in the same areas. Saw 4 today actually.
