Title: Fall chinook opener
Post by: allen on August 03, 2023, 07:33:47 PM
Was out there Aug 1, but no luck.  Saw some caught trolling & some on anchor.  Stayed longer than I had planned thinking "I've seen enough caught, if I stay through the tide I'll get one."  You know how that goes, try it again tomorrow.

Well you certainly can't catch em from the couch or desk - good on you for getting out there!  I'm jealous and I'm sure I'm not the only one.  Persistence does pay off.

Tight lines and screaming drags!

Headed down in the morning for 8 days of fishing at bouy 10.  Love this annual trip!

Good luck down there..  we ended up cancelling ours due to other conflicts, might try to sneak one in later in the month.  Don't catch to many and eat up the quota....

15 lb. upriver bright.  Strange, see a bunch caught Tuesday but didn't get one.  Very few today but did get one.  Guess that's fishing.

No salmon today, just this guy.  It was end of the tide, very little current left, all the boats around me had fish but not me.  Then the rod goes down, I drift out with it but 45 mins. later I still haven't seen it & I'm totally spent.  By then I realize it's not a salmon & I'm preparing to cut it loose, but I'd like to at least see it first.  And, of course, I'd just as soon not have to sacrifice my gear.  Then some friends (much younger) who had been anchored near me came out to check on me, thank you.  One of them got in my boat & landed it.  I was done period, could not have done it.  Trying to measure with a yard stick it was a bit over 8ft. & of course we released it.

Is that a shark or sturgeon?
