Title: 49 Degrees North Horse Packer?
Post by: Basket Rack on August 21, 2023, 08:18:29 PM: I got lucky and drew a 49 Degrees North moose tag. After doing some scouting, there are quite a few gated roads closed to motorized vehicles that might prove challenging to pack a bull out of especially if the weather is warm. I am curious if anyone knows any horse packers in that area that a guy could hire to help pack out meat. Having killed moose before I know what a task it is when you get one down and just want to have all options available if needed if I am able to get one. Thank you.

the last two hunts in Washington that I’ve been on have both came out whole. It does make it much nicer :chuckle:

No, he was just listing them in order of level of backcountry hazard, starting with most hazardous. LOL

I've got a story too lol we weren't moose hunting but there was a different version of the ghost in the darkness. Only time I've ever been legitimately scared in the woods. I still look over my shoulder when I'm alone more often than not.

I've been in on 3 Shiras bull's; we got one loaded whole, one was as easy as pie to pack-out, and one was a flat-out b1tch!

I did get a nice bull as it looks like you all have seen on the other thread. It was a fun hunt a little more difficult than I thought it would be. I had hoped to get one with my bow but I switched to my rifle on day 8 or 9 cause I was really needing to get back to work. Lots of folks on this site and other moose tag holders provided lots of info, tips and offered to help with the pack out, which was really generous of them.

If anyone draws the tag definitely reach out to me, I spent a lot of time on the unit and will share what I know, onX pins, etc.
