Post in this thread team updates, or if you are looking for a team.  Anyone not on a team by the beginning of the season will be assigned to a team needing 5 members by me.

Rules and Scoring (to be updated prior to October 1st - so more input appreciated)

Rules:
1) 5 members per team - guest/kids can count towards your total as long as they aren't regular members of your hunting party
2) Photo points will not count toward the contest
3) No roadkill
4) Honor system applies
5) Photo of kill with at least one team member needs to be submitted for points to be awarded.
*Here is what I had in mind for a "guest hunter"  Sometimes you take a newbie out, sometimes a relative rolls into town and you take them out.  If you kill an animal on these hunts then it can count toward your total as long as someone from the team was there.  A guest hunter can't go out by themselves one time, kill ten coyotes, and have that total counted to someone's team.  (For rule clarification: A guest hunter can only count toward your total for one hunt, and must be accompanied by a team member.)
6) You can add someone to your team after the 1st, but any coyotes they shoot prior to be putting on your team do not count.
7) No hand gestures needed for photos.  This is a "fun" contest.  No money or big prizes involved, so I would hope our members keep it on the up and up.  Don't drag frozen coyotes around to different locations and take pictures.  For the heaviest and smallest coyote, you will need to show a picture of the scale.  For the most animals taken in a 12 hour period, you will need to take a group shot (both ears of the animal are acceptable).  For the most animals award I will be counting all animals, regardless of type as 1 (ie, 4 bobcats, 3 coyotes = 7).  This is not the calculation for your point total, just that part of the contest that applies to animals.

Scoring:
1) West Side Coyote - 3
2) East side Coyote - 1
3) Bobcats - 4
4) Foxes - 2
5) Misc. called animals (ie: badgers, cougars, wolves - Idaho) will be awarded points by a random drawing of 10, 20, or 30 points that are selected out of a hat.
6) Multipliers: Muzzleloader - points x 1.5, Compound Bow - points x 3, Traditional Bow - points x 5, Out-of state animals - points x .5

Prizes:
1) Winning Team - probably just bragging rights
2) Heavy Coyote (must be weighed on a scale, it can be your own fish scale, just no estimates)- tbd
3) Smallest Coyote - tbd
4) Heaviest Bobcat - tbd
5) Most animals (not points) killed in a 12 hour period (a daytime or nighttime outing)[/b]

People lose interest if it goes too long.  September or October is a great time.   Are we doing a moderator team again or do you guys want to branch out.  Wihtout a broken hand this year I feel I will be contributing a bit more to the carnage.

Basically I set the dates for when the fur is nice.  However, feel free to blast away to your hearts delight and post pictures in the forum.  Contest rules will pretty much be the same.  The only thing that might change are the amount of points awarded, and we may limit the number of folks per team.  I am also thinking a coyote west of the cascades will be worth 3x what an east side coyote is worth.  Let me know if you have any good ideas on the contest.

An award for the heaviest coyote, most coyotes in a single day or night, smallest coyote will also be added.  I will come up with some prizes.

Team Slayer (Saylean, X-Force, Aqar):

Here is one I got during Spring Bear hunt and a pic of another during the same hunt. Of course, if we are waiting till Sept, no worries either.  ;) Just thought I would post since I didnt get a chance last year. All west side.

I am ready this year with my bolt action .223 savage!

Team leadslingers had 5, and we had 7 if you add our two guests for a night. They got lucky and each added a cat to the years bag.

Hopefully team leadslinger can fill the trucks with carnage a few times this winter like last winter. It was a blast.

I've got over 450 rounds ready for the 22-250. So that means I should be able to get at least one yote. :yike: I've been sooo tempted to go out hunting lately but it has just been to hot. I went for a drive not too long ago and spotted one. He was gone before I had the truck stopped. Coyote Madness is a blast especially on those weeks when the snow is on the ground and you can spot for miles.

Title: Newbie Team
Post by: ivarhusa on July 13, 2009, 06:08:06 PM
I like the idea of a newbie team, or several, depending on the number of noobs out there. We noobs don't have any cred with the old hands, so we need to stick together, eh?

I only shot 4 coyotes last season, my first of any success, so I count my self as a noob. Put me on a noob team, and perhaps one specifically from SE Washington? We'd have something in common, and might be able to hunt together from time to time.

I know I will have more trips into the field this coming season, now that I have 4WD to play with.

What say?

Ivar

Maybe need to rename this "Predator Madness", so we can let rasbo in on the deal.  How many coyotes should a bobcat be "worth", in the scoring system?  Would it be too generous to offer 1 Bob= 4 Dogs?  I dunno...

Coyotes 1 point Bobbies 5 points, foxes 3 points. YAR members get double points since we're all a little slow. I hope rabbits and all that crap don't get thrown into the mix. Make a seperate contest for them.  :twocents:

I think West side Coyotes should be worth at LEAST 5 East side Coyotes, maybe even 8 or 10!

How about traveling Coyotes? I might travel out of state this year if things work out financially. I have offers in 4 states, but don't know what I can get to...

And a score for Bobs, similar odds 5:1 or 8:1?

How much for a called Cougar?

Drive by or hike by Cougar?

Bonus for primitive weaponry?

I'll play, somebody pick me!

There's also several members on here that will deny to the end that they are YAR material   :chuckle:
I think this may be a more eloquent terminology
YAR= Social stigma, a severe social depravity of personal characteristics that are against cultural norms.   :yike:

Rules and Scoring (to be updated prior to October 1st - so more input appreciated)

Rules:
1) 5 members per team - guest/kids can count towards your total as long as they aren't regular members of your hunting party
2) No points for out of state animals
3) Photo points will not count toward the contest
4) No roadkill
5) Honor system applies
6) Photo of kill with at least one team member needs to be submitted for points to be awarded.

Scoring:
1) West Side Coyote - 3
2) East side Coyote - 1
3) Bobcats - 4
4) Foxes - 2
5) Misc. called animals (ie: badgers, cougars, wolves - Idaho) will be awarded points by a random drawing of 10, 20, or 30 points that are selected out of a hat.
6) Muzzleloader - points x 1.5, Bow - points x 5

Prizes:
1) Winning Team - probably just bragging rights
2) Heavy Coyote (must be weighed on a scale, it can be your own fish scale, just no estimates)- tbd
3) Smallest Coyote - tbd
4) Heaviest Bobcat - tbd
5) Most animals (not points) killed in a 12 hour period (a daytime or nighttime outing)

Guest rule means that if someone is out with you once or twice this year and you kill something, then you can count it toward your team total.  If they are your partner the majority of the time, then they need to be an official member.  Again, honor system applies.

Here is what I had in mind for a "guest hunter"  Sometimes you take a newbie out, sometimes a relative rolls into town and you take them out.  If you kill an animal on these hunts then it can count toward your total as long as someone from the team was there.  A guest hunter can't go out by themselves one time, kill ten coyotes, and have that total counted to someone's team.

For rule clarification: A guest hunter can only count toward your total for one hunt, and must be accompanied by a team member.

Clear enough, or do you want to do away with it altogether?

I like the sound of that! If you accept my team that is. I am always having somebody come into town and most of the time if i can do it i film. It would be nice to have those dogs count.

Clear enough, or do you want to do away with it altogether?

sounds good to me! AKsigns lives in alaska, and i took him out once on martinez ranch when he was driving through to do some calling....

OKAY! we got ME(runningunnin), Austrian Hunter, jdb, and Demontang on ummm... team selah again i guess?? lol sorry Gringo to slow!

In the rules it says "no points for out of state animals" but wolves, cougars and badgers from out of state are counted?  Why is that?  Out of state dogs should count.  Im sure there are a few guys in the competition that will be out of state.  Here is a thought.

1 point for out of state coyotes/varmints
2 points for eastside coyotes and foxes
3 points for westside coyotes
4 points for bobcats
10 points for cougars
20 points for wolves

animals killed with a muzzleloader points will be multiplied by 2
animals killed with a bow points will be multiplied by 5

I'll get teams and the free agent pool updated this weekend.  I missed a runner at 20 yards last night.  I had him at 8, but he started to bolt when I drew.  If I was using a compound he would have been smoked, cause I could have held my draw for 30 seconds.

I suggest that you make a rule on a sign or symbol on the pics.  It can be anything like a "thumbs up" on the left hand or holding up 3 fingers.  Just something to remove any temptation for people to use pics that aren't current.

Can I be on my own team called Team Gringo until I find a few teammates that know what they are doing and will go out more than twice this winter?

I got a few guys in mind.....

presumably if wolves and badgers and other stuff that we can't shoot in WA count then yotes should count too.
one of the original rules was that out of state animals don't count, but then it says that wolves count for X number of points and badgers count for X number of points.
maybe an out of state coyote should count for a 1/2 point or something.

Title: Re: Coyote Madness Fall 2009 - Winter 2010

Out of state coyotes will be worth .5 points.  Bears won't count.  I included cougars because the rifle opener coincided with our contest start.  Wolves and badgers are on there because it is kind of cool.

No hand gestures needed.  This is a "fun" contest.  No money or big prizes involved, so I would hope our members keep it on the up and up.  Don't drag frozen coyotes around to different locations and take pictures.  For the heaviest and smallest coyote, you will need to show a picture of the scale.  For the most animals taken in a 12 hour period, you will need to take a group shot.  For the most animals award I will be counting all animals, regardless of type as 1 (ie, 4 bobcats, 3 coyotes = 7).  This is not the calculation for your point total, just that part of the contest that applies to animals.

I kinda feel sorry 4 the rest of u its not going to b much competion, with team lead slinger living in the varmint capitol of the state, but thanks for trying :)

Just trying to stir a little

We'll see if I am still married after this winter.  :chuckle:

By the way I got us a new spot. Full of dogs, dumb ones too. Maybe a good spot to whack a few with a bow or muzz for more points.

For the most animals taken in a 12 hour period, you will need to take a group shot.

Since pelt prices are going to be way down his year we are considering not pelting our coyotes, By the time you do all the work it amounts to about 2.50 an hour and cuts into calling time. I think for the guys that put on the miles on foot this could be somewhat cumbersome. So how about figuring out a way to show a group shot without having to lug multiple coyotes for miles just for a group pic? Last year I think we just took a pic when we shot em whether it was one or more dogs at each set.

Cut off both ears and take a picture of all of the ears together.

Or tails?

I don't want to use tails since I have about 50  tails laying around my garage.  A lot of folks save these and have them laying around.  I figure the ears will help eliminate the tempatation of cheating.

So just for clarity. A guest can only hunt and their animals count towards the team's count only once? In other words a guest is only good for one time?

I will update teams and rules this weekend.  If anyone has last minute changes let me know via pm or in this thread.  You can add someone to your team after the 1st, but any coyotes they shoot prior to be putting on your team do not count.

Hang on Rick....I know tbradford was going to update everything but with the site crash it may have slowed him down.....

and if I get a job I will buy calls  ;)......after my bear experience yesterday I am even more excited to actually call a bear rather than just stumble over them like usual.

I have updated the teams and rules, and assigned free agents to teams.  (See post #1 on the first page)

If you want to add anybody else to your team, please post here or PM me.

If you want to combine teams so you have 5 members let me know.  It isn't a requirement.

I think the rules and scoring are pretty much set unless someone comes up with something spectacular in the final two days.

Hello,

Been browsing the forum for a few months, but this Coyote contest kinda forced me to join.  I would like to be added to a team if possible before the fun begins.

I'd also like to say you guys have a great group of folks on this forum, happy to be a member.

edit - Team "High Desert" sounds like a winner, can we free-agents cherry-pick?

Works for me, but pm mtnmuley and check to see if they have room.  I think he had a couple of partners that were going to joint the site for the contest.  No matter what we will get you on a team.  Welcome to the site.   :hello:
