shot 8 yotes from the deck this year, don't think the horse likes it. i saw a proposal earlier asking to permit the use of reducers. i am aware its legal to own, hoping to use too, someday.
-
whats a reducer?
you mean suppressor?
-
yes, it was in legislation, back in Jan or Feb, wondering if there was or will be any movement.
-
From: HB1604
Read first time 01/26/09. Referred to Committee on Judiciary.
16 (c) Uses any contrivance or device for suppressing the noise of any
17 firearm unless the suppressor is legally registered and possessed in
18 accordance with federal law,
19 is guilty of a gross misdemeanor punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.
It appears that there has not been movement on this bill during the regular session.

I believe you need a "Class 3 FFL" to be able to use a suppressor, as well as a fully automatic firearm... good luck in Washington State lol.

From a manufacture of noise suppressors:
http://www.gem-tech.com/legal.html
To the best of our knowledge, silencers are legal for private ownership in the following states: AL, AR, AK, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI, and WY. Additionally, they maybe owned by Class 3 dealers and Class 2 manufacturers (but not individuals) in: CA, IA, KS, MA, MO, and MI. Territorial law prohibits possession in the Territories and Possessions of the United States. There are no known restrictions on governmental ownership. If your state is not listed, check with your local office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms or your state's Attorney General. If they are not legal in your state of residence, we cannot sell to you. Please do not ask us to violate state or federal law.

This is another law that doesnt make sense. Can own but not use in this state!
And being in possesion of a silencer that has been fired through doenst matter...so i used it in Idaho
Too me, seems like it should be all or nothing. Either can own it and use it, or make it illegal all together :dunno:
-
It's just stupid that they can't be used. People complain about the noise from people shooting guns, whether it is at a shooting range, duck hunting, or whatever.
But by law you can't use a device that will make a firearm quieter ??? Why??? :dunno:
-
so you can't be sneaky with them??
:dunno: just a hunch.
-
I remember when the Govenor's race was happening, Dino Rossi said he would make that stupid law go away. Now there is a person in the office who is completely anti gun.
I am just waiting for the law to be fixed so I can discharge in Wa. It is not even worth it to do it secretly.
-
"Now there is a person in the office who is completely anti gun." Just a reminder that her first term was by judge appointment. IMO. At least our State Constitution still recognizes the US Constitution as supreme law. (so far). Its not only here,I get overzealous on my letter writing to our state and federal reps also. Come to think of it I haven't demanded gregwires resignation yet. Hmmmm, gotta go! ;)

where does it say that you can own them but not use them?

The way I understand it, unless a load is pushing the bullet slower then the speed of sound, you still get the load crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. That's why the military has subsonic 9mm etc. to use in silenced firearms. A friend of mine in Alaska had a 300 whisper built to put a silencer on, again a subsonic round.
-
what's kind of funny is that supressors are extremely popular with the .22LR hunters in europe, and getting one is not a big deal over there like they are here, despite the extremely oppressive gun laws in most of those countries.
guess it makes it a lot more effective for rabbit control when they can't hear their buddies getting thwacked in the head.
-
Funny thing is its okay to own one in Washington you just can't use it :chuckle:
-
Here is a 50BMG a friend of mine lets us use 1st picture is with muzzle brake 2ND is with the "Barrel extension" funny thing is with the "barrel ext. you don't need to wear ear plugs. :chuckle:

do we really need silencers? Come on guys if you are talking about hunting what do you need a sliencer for? As for my Italian-American people, I could see the need. :chuckle:

Yes.
1, it will cut the cost of health care for people who don't have insurance and refuse to purchase earplugs.
2, It makes it much more pleasant to shoot at the range.
3, 2'nd chance opportunities.
4, sick of wearing earmuffs.
5, who cares about need.
6, reduces recoil.
7, I can shoot those damn cats without the neighbors knowing.
8, It will get those people who complain about the noise that gun ranges make to start whining about other non issues.
9, It is just more fun to shoot when you don't have to yell at each other because you are wearing hearing protection.
Go to a machine gun shoot or find some friends who have suppressors and shoot them, then you will know why we want them.
-
It really is amazing to shoot a 50 and not have ear plugs the blue smoke is from the oil put in the extention to keep it from rusting and that was the first shot. After that all you hear is a rush of air no crack it's sighted in for 800 yards and you would not be able to hear a sound at that distance. He also made the tripod the whole setup weighs 62 pounds so with the brake on you can shoot it a lot and not bother your shoulder.
-
You can purchase supressors at Discount Guns in Everett, WA. You have to pay a $200 tax stamp on them plus the cost of the supressor. Legally you can own one, but it is illegal to discharge in the state of WA, unless class 3 or police, military, FBI, etc. You can legally shoot them in Oregon and Idaho. You just have to technically shoot them in those states as the law reads.
-
I had some fun with them today. Living close to Idaho is fun.
-
ok , i want one too. I just don't have of a need. Do most of them come with a way to attch them or do you have to get some work done? Nothing I own has threaded barrels.
-
Threading a barrel is very important, it has to be done to near perfection otherwise your bullet will hit the suppressor and you will have a very expensive pile of federally regulated metal.
A competent machine shop should be able to do it. I do not know where you live, but if you go to Axel in Spokane he will be able to hook you up with everything you need. He is pricey, but he also know what he is talking about when it comes to class 2 and 3 items.

Silencers are very popular for hunting in the UK - even air rifles I have seen over there have them. From shooting foxes to stag hunting in Scotland.... With lamping I think it is a requirement to cut down on the noise.
-
many CZ .22 rifles are threaded for a can. mine is one of the few models that isn't :'(
-
They are great for shooting grey diggers or marmonts in eastern Oregon. They don't all run down into the holes at the same time. Some have no clue until they fall over. It ups the kill percentage with the .22

That used to be very common. Not so much anymore. And the thread pattern is Euro so you have to get an adapter.
