Title: Today's special commission meeting, Sept. 8th
Post by: LDennis24 on September 08, 2023, 01:32:16 PM: So my brother I formed me today was a special commission meeting for petitions involving year around cougar hunting, spring bear season dates, something about a land transaction and some other things. How does this work? Is it just proposals that are discussed and submitted to the commission or are they truly considering these options?

Post by: Special T on September 08, 2023, 02:51:08 PM: I listened to part of it. The commission is required to hear petitions. They didn't adopt any and the fact is that unless it is already worked out with a majority, which are currently anti hunters, it won't go anywhere. Also it appears that the department understands this and wasn't making recommendations that went against the antihunting political forces.

Post by: outdooraddict on September 08, 2023, 03:01:53 PM: it was a formality and a complete waste of time and resources. the commission will never vote one of those petitions into effect that benefits hunters. with smith and rowland on there, nothing will go through.

They admit there is a healthy enough population of bear to hunt recreationally but there needs to be environmental impact greater than what is currently presented (fawn, calf predations etc) recreational hunting doesn't warrant recreational hunting.

Now that they have been sued and in the process they "MIGHT" be a little more cognicent. They did thage the AAG Joe P in the meeting.

I encourage everyone I talk to about this to just go to the WDFW page and leave a message to the commission. I believe the sad truth that there is enough people to make a difference if most are of them speak up-even just submitting a comment but most won’t

I appreciate seeing Steve Parker and the questions he raised. Of all of them, Baker surprise me a bit. Not saying she's an ally but is either coming around a bit or learning to play the game really well.

The more I see of Lehmkuhl and Reagan the more concerned I get. Smith and Rowland were their typical selves. Funny comment by Smith about not putting a lot of weight in surveys or majority of public comments ias this s a flip from her past stance and a clear indication of our impacts through public comments and effects of HOWL.

Lehmkul is a wild card that MAY be able to swing but hasnt been convinced so far. Reagan isnt our friend. Baker isnt our friend or coming around. FACT she is the smartest Anti on the Commission. She occasionally gives the alure that she can be swayed but has been on the wrong side of EVERY vote for predator control. I belive that the Department is playing defense. They wont do anything to ruffle the commissioners feathers but are biding time with the WWC lawsuit and Sportsmen's Alliances threats of new litigation, which would hopefully have more impact than the last one.
