They have to compete with the horror movie that shares the same name.

He said it was a special draw on his podcast but it was west side. I saw the picture on Instagram at the time but he posts so much it's impossible to find now. I wonder what GMU he was in?

It was an east side special permit.

I thought it was good, maybe that's just cause it was in Washington.

They showed shot #1 ,elk going down. Didn't show the other shots after shot 1. It's pretty evident that they recorded it.
650 yards is a far shot, and they got it done, but edited out.
Maybe they just didn't want the kill shot on TV,I don't know.

I'm sure maybe it was just guys wanting to help.
I think it happens alot with social media, you tube, television production hunting shows a lot.
You end up with a dozen guys spotting game animals.
Covering a whole mountain range,or ridge.
I realize they didn't portray it as a DIY hunt,so that is what it is.
Alot of hunting shows these days, will at least have two people.
One recording ,doing video work, other hunting.
Very few are DIY ,cause it's very hard to hunt and get footage at the same time. So I understand a video crew and all that.

Overall it was a good watch for hunting TV ,those are just things I noticed. Maybe edit all the guys spotting ,show all the shots fired.
I'm sure I'll get trashed, flamed, and dumped on by some die hard fans.
That's my review of what I watched.
Could I do better, definitely not.

I feel like they did an excellent job portraying it as a group effort and that they had multiple spotters..Phelps mentioned it on numerous occasions along with multiple posts on hunt wa saying it like it was with lots of gratitude towards the guys helping. I enjoy the group hunts equally if not more then my solo hunts...they are very rewarding

Excellent film

You’d want all the help you can get on that hunt, if not for the horses you can easily end up packing a bull out of a 2500’ hell hole

It just want to say,it was a B-  for me.
It was a good video.
I'm just spoiled from all the other hunting videos out there.
I like kill shots,DIY hunts appeal to me more.
If group hunts is your thing ,then it probably was an A+ video.
Everyone has different stuff that appeals to them more than others.
I don't have any problems with pack animals.

Hunting with friends is probably one of the most important factors of hunting for me. If it wasn’t for the adventure with friends, what would there be?
There were no actual guides there.

The general concensus to my knowledge is DIY=non guided. So if you have friends with you are you not still DIY hunting?

DIY= do it yourself, evidently that means completely solo ! Lol honestly who cares if it was guided, semiguided, prescouted paid for maps, team hunting, or solo DIY...it looked like exactly what Mr Phelps wanted and he has a pretty big smile on his face   :hello:

I don’t care how someone on the internet interprets the way I hunt. I was hunting with four great friends and we will remember this hunt for the rest of our lives. The struggles from the weather, the difficult terrain and the camaraderie can’t be replaced.

I was also able to meet the Adam, Zane and Josh (horse packers) during the hunt and through chatting, enjoying the same whiskey and telling old hunting stories we became friends and they were awesome when the time was needed to use the horses. Yeah we could have packed the bull out on our backs but the horses were nice.

As for the shot…my camera guy is as good as it gets but after I hit the bull he walked out of the spotter and he kept his “A” camera on me.  The camera guy was with me the entire hunt.

As for the bull I shot, I didn’t spot it. We were concentrating on a canyon where we had seen a bigger bull earlier in the day and we could see bulls working through the timber.  I was in a position to kill him if a shot presented itself. Since we were all there Hunter and Chris decided to go check out a canyon down the road. It just so happened they spotted that bull and wanted me to check it out.

Some may rate the hunt as a B- and I could care less. I do not hunt to check all the boxes someone may have. I hunt because I love the mountains, tough times with good friends and I love just taking it all in. As I get older that’s what it’s all about. The kill is just icing on the cake.

I hope you all enjoyed the hunt and  everyone has a great season.

Very well said but you don't have to explain yourself to 99% of the people on this forum.  Most people that draw that tag would take any and almost all help offered.  You did that tag justice for sure

Unfortunately there is always someone who wants to pick apart anything that anyone posts. What is important is that you had a great hunt that you enjoyed and the majority of people enjoyed watching your video, myself included. The canyons in that country are brutal, I can't imagine anyone not getting any help they can find to pack out an animal. Congrats to you and your friends!

I knew it was going to be a good video and thats why I posted it.  I appreciate the chance to even see the video and grab a little more insight on the area and its potential. Haters are gonna hate. Some people are just unhappy and have to critique what they don't have the ability to do or accomplish themselves. Thanks for taking us along on the hunt with you!

Your perspective is spot on in my opinion.  Thanks for letting others tag along on a great hunt.  I hunt with family, friends, guides, solo.....on foot, truck, quad, side by side, tree stand.....etc. etc. etc.....and it is all good.  Any reason to be in woods is a good reason.  The kill is the icing on the cake.  Most people will never remember the sensation of "pulling the trigger."  Almost everyone will remember the moments leading to the pulling the trigger and the moments after.  Stay true to you and the heck with anyone that is a naysayer.

I feel there’s more complaining about people complaining on this thread than there are people actually complaining lol. I don’t see what’s wrong with people talking on a forum about a video someone shares with the world. I would be shocked if Jason cared what people thought. For him to say he doesn’t makes me think he does care which sucks but I guess that’s part of being an influencer. Super cool to come on here and answer some questions though.
