I have never went to these in person.
For this I am willing to give up gas, time, and work for.
Are you going?

-
As long as nothing crazy comes up at work I will be making the trek over the mountain to be there for At least Friday. I will be the guy in the camo hat and hunter orange vest… hopefully along with a few thousand others
-
Leave it to the government to decide issues about hunting during hunting season
No coincidence there huh ?
-
Is there more articles on this that you know of?
Just wanted more info on this

I'm planning on going. I'll be the one that is out of 2023 bear tags.
-
I will be in attendance, I have also just sat down for about 30 minutes and typed out a email straight to the fish and game commission. I hope they will read it. Pretty sad when you spend all that time to write out your thoughts and know in the back of your mind that it's probably going to be ignored.
-
I have sent one every day and will
It makes a guy want to cry emailing one’s thoughts like that
Also I thought it was interesting and funny that when the website pulled up and the options came up. I wanted to email the “report a violation “ department
Seemed appropriate

“At the commissioner’s August meeting, they also discussed their plan and desire to end all bear and mountain lion hunting in the state as early as April of 2024.”
What was said specifically? I’ve never heard any of the commissioners say this.
-
I hadn’t either. I can’t say I’m the best at keeping up with this stuff but man this has gotten to me.
And I am a bit surprised it isnt bigger deal on here.
-
I’m gonna try and be there
-
One page ! One freaking page how are people not outraged and saying they’ll be their spring bear was the test it worked . Everything will come crashing down

Same here.... the majority are still sitting on their hands... can't believe people are ignorant enough to think it can't happen. Still seeing and hearing people everyday say "they can't do that"... well guess what.. :(
-
The pen is mighter than the sword
Im sure people are sending their comments in
I did
I’ve also tried to attend similar events in Olympia before
Parking sucks

To quote Commissioner Melanie Rowland at an August 2023 meeting of the WDFW Commission, “…{hunters} should be getting nervous.”
-
Hope anyone and everyone can attend that day, especially on the 27th of October in Olympia. That’s the BIIIGG day where they try and pass their ‘preservation policy’ which will change a lot of things in wildlife management. I’m working on a ‘pints night’ as well with a local brewery for everyone who would like to gather that night following the commissioners meeting, will post times and location when I get a solid reservation.
There’s another meeting coming up sooner in September as well. Much appreciated to you who have written commissioners and been involved….this is a fight, and they’re playing dirty on many fronts to include threats of taking bear and cougar away as well as saying they’ve considered making elk a draw system only for the state. This and planning these meetings in prime time hunting seasons….these are the tactics they are using.
-
Public comments should just be one person after another making the commissioners have to watch the endless videos on the YouTube of bears eating baby fawns, with the sound turned up high.
-
Could someone post the link to submit online comments, as well? Thx.

Just show up.... comments aren't needed... there are enough people who are going to speak... I live 5 minutes from there... if you are worried about parking, we can carpool

So nothing ever came about for outing Smith for her violation about being on a board of advisors and the commission?

Public comment period for black bear timber damage permit rule proposal extended
OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has extended a public comment period about the Department’s proposed rule change to revise how WDFW issues black bear timber damage depredation permits. The public now has until Friday, Oct. 27 to submit comments.
A copy of the rule making proposal is available on the WDFW website. The public can submit comments via web form, by email, or by phone (855-925-2801, project code 5474). The public may also mail written comments to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife ATTN: Wildlife Program, PO Box 43200, Olympia, WA 98504.
Members of the public who have already submitted comments as part of this proposal do not need to re-submit their comments.
The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will accept in-person and virtual public comments on the proposed rule change at a rescheduled public hearing during their Oct. 26-28 meeting in Olympia. Those interested in providing comments during the meeting should pre-register online. Information on how to pre-register will be made available on the Commission Meeting webpage. A decision is tentatively scheduled for the November 2023 meeting.
All members of the public are invited to share their perspectives and participate in WDFW public feedback opportunities regardless of race, color, sex, age, national origin, language proficiency, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, status as a veteran, or basis of disability.
The Department’s proposal would provide a process for WDFW to issue permits for individuals to lethally remove black bears in specific locations where black bears damage commercial timber. The proposed rule, if adopted, would identify how permits could be applied for, the conditions of the permits, and how the Department would manage applications.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife works to preserve, protect, and perpetuate fish, wildlife, and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.

There are only about 10 or so comments against the Bear Timber Damage proposal...
Extension was needed :chuckle:

There are commissioners on record saying that public comment is a huge consideration in their decision making. Now that hunters are more vocal, it's biting them in the rear.

Appealed what? To stay on both commissions?
There is a nwsportsmanmag article on the outcome…

Looks like the agenda items haven't been posted yet.
Do people know already what's going to be discussed? (if so, how?).
I'd like to be prepared to say something impactful but it would be helpful to know what's going to be on the agenda...

Like “ Game commission meeting - are you going ?”
The thing is we need people at every meeting, not just October and December. We haven't marketed December at all yet but that meeting seems concerning. Things are going to get worse and we can't just show up at one meeting and call it quits. I know we're not gonna pack every meeting with a 100 people but at least enough people to drown out as much airtime for antis.

We are recommending people do carpooling or a ride share as you call it. The coalition itself is not doing a rideshare but our members are carpooling.

Does the coalition have a website? 501status? Any links for more info would be appreciated. Tia

We formed back in early august and are finalizing our website. Its taken a longtime because we're trying to make it as detailed as possible. As for the 501, we are not doing that. Would hold us back and cause more trouble. not being one lets us do more.

Membership? Bylaws? Mission? Just keep hearing coalition but haven't gained an understanding of what or who it is.

How would a 501c4 hold you back? What trouble would it cause?

I mentioned this on “campfire “ page, not one response
-
I'm planning on going in October. I took those days off work for hunting season. This is more important to me. I will gladly miss a few days of hunting one season if that means I get to hunt the next 3 years.
-
I mentioned this to some guys at a pheasant release site. They heard about the bear/cougar situation, but didn't seem to understand how important this is. I reminded them about hound hunting and trapping. Hopefully, they contact everyone they know to get into action!

I’ll be going. I’m not sure how much it will matter, but I can’t do nothing and expect anything to be ok going forward.
If anybody is on the fence about traveling because of the cost, I live 90 min from Olympia and have 2 rooms that aren’t used. We can even carpool.

Despite all of the talk going on here, almost none of my buddies or family that hunt know anything about this until I mention it to them. I would venture to guess that 10-20% of WA hunters are vaguely aware of this situation at best.

Agree 100%, people who participate in these forums and actually know whats going on are a very small percentage.... I am preaching every chance I get and the amount of side-ways looks I get are unbelievable...
-
Is there opportunity for public comment at this meeting? Or is going just a solidarity/increased presence thing?

Add in to that the amount of people that will refute that anything like this could ever happen. Once you show them proof, and they still don't believe it. I know hunters are a fickle group, but I am in awe at the amount of people that are blissfully ignorant to what is going on with our hunting rights and heritage. However, I will continue to try to keep as many people informed as I can.
