Has anyone been lucky lately and has bagged a trifecta? I'm still trying to pursue mine after for over 35 years. I know I can't achieve this goal if I don't spend enough days in the wilderness. I've gotten two, but still trying for three. Any stories and/or pics?

My hunting partner and I liken filling the four OTC tags to hitting for the cycle with the cougar being the triple or hardest to achieve. I've done deer, elk and bear a couple of times and missed out on the elk one year when I killed a cougar during archery deer. It's a fun topic to discuss.

Been chasing that for a long time! Closest I got was a deer and a bear, and missed shots on two different spikes during the muzzy season.
-
Done 3 a lot, but the years I have killed cougars I didn’t kill a bear, so havent got all 4 yet in a year yet
-
Fun topic for sure. The deer and bear are easy....it's the elk that has been difficult in this state. Before they shut down archery cow hunts, me and my hunting partners were pretty successful...but now, we don't chase elk, unless we draw a tag. Never killed a cougar but would love to one of these days. Really didn't start hunting bear until about 10 years ago.....and had a couple years of deer and elk.
I guess, I will have to make this a goal in the coming years.

Got all three with archery equipment in 2007!

Last year 2022 muzzy bear ,muzzy elk and modern blacktail

In 2020 I harvested a mountain lion(February) bear(May) pronghorn(September) and elk and deer in the same trip(October) I guess I never put together that I had done that. I had a turkey tag, never really hunted them, and a wolf tag left at the end of the year. Should’ve worked a little harder to fill those I guess

I have gotten deer, elk, and bear in the same year 3 times now
-
Best was Bear and Deer a day apart, Bear opening day of modern firearm, and a nice fork buck the next day. Never done Elk and Deer same year, and have yet to see a Cougar.
-
Have got deer elk bear in same year twice, both with archery.....when you could bait bears.
Only killed 1 cougar. I know I killed a deer that year (have killed a deer every single year in WA my entire career of 43 years) not sure if I killed an elk or bear that year though.

Great respect and admiration to all who have "been there, done that"! Good to know a lot have experienced the trifecta in this State. I had a feeling that a lot of folks have experienced notching up at least three tags in this State in one season.

Did a trifecta for the first time last year. Bear, elk, and deer in that order last year, all rifle. But it's less impressive since the elk and deer were out of state (Idaho).
For a different type of trifecta, I've always wanted to do an air-water-land combo in the same day. For example, grouse, trout, deer. Kind of a silly goal but one can always dream!

I tried that a few years back in the San Juans. Caught a small Blackmouth in the fog on the way to an island and was trying to get a Deer for my own surf and turf! :chuckle:

When I had the Lodge open I called that the Buck Canyon Slam ..I did suggest a version ...Deer..Bear ..and Turkey which ...or Deer ..Walleye..and Turkey ( in one day) was an easier version to get. I had read about in Ireland where the Slam was a Red Stag..Grouse, and Atlantic Salmon..all in one day.

did all 4 one year
How many days did you invest to hunt to get the four in one year? That's impressive!

2019 was that year for me. Bagged 2 bears (One with a handgun, one with a rifle), a turkey, a massive benchleg buck, and a cow elk in archery season. On the last day of cougar season I was chasing down tracks until last light (it had walked through a buddy's property that afternoon). Almost filled every tag Washington sold me that year with no special draws. Also got married that year so I filled my Marriage license too!

2021 I shot my first Washington bear, then a eastern raffle bull elk and closed the year with an entiat archery buck.

I was lucky enough to pull off a WA trifecta in 2020. Started with a spring bear in the blues. Followed by a spike elk in the blues and finished it off with a Palouse late muzzleloader whitetail buck. I also added a bonus Idaho unit 11 mule deer buck which I got two days before I got the spike elk. I’ve been hunting since 1995 but 2020 was a year of firsts for me. First bear, first mule deer, and out of the dozens of whitetails I’ve shot over the years, that 2020 buck was the first I had ever called (grunted) in.

Palouse whitetail and bonus ID mule deer

I got all 4 in 2016, the girlfriend got all 4 in 2017, busy seasons with out of state tags and extra draws. We haven't hunted much since 2020 when we drew moose tags.

Gosh, I used to do it all the time, in fact it was more uncommon to not do it. I’ve pretty much gone to catch and release now. Enjoy the pursuit of your goal.
