Good luck to you.  It looks pretty snotty out there.

It was very bumpy out there today.  Wind waves of 3'-4', and bigger, with lots of white-caps  The Everett boat launch was a total zoo, as usual.

We landed one smallish 5lb coho, and lost a huge fish.  Had him on for 2-3 minutes, and he made two line-peeling runs, and then a very big sea lion decided that the fish was his.

After the sea lion took the salmon, he had the flasher stuck in his mouth.  He was making all kinds of noises and shaking his head violently.......served him right !!

Tomorrow will be a better day !!!

When we bagged it about noon, the top fish on the board was a 16lb fish.

Fished 9 Monday to Thursday. Tuesday was best day. Wednesday was rough but had fish on all day. Thursday was decent but caught a lot of blackmouth. Friday was super slow. Best size yesterday. Got a 10lber. Lost one to a sea lion. Nothing else of size. First day all season didn't limit the boat.

That 16 lb fish is the biggest derby fish I can remember in a number of years. Giant fish.

My son and I caught 17 today, most were 4-5.5 lbs, just kept releasing trying to find good derby fish. Bite mostly died about 9:30a, we finally called it about 1:30p when it started dumping rain. Back at it tomorrow.

Do they weigh in the round or gilled and gutted?

In the round, you may bleed them if you want  but not  required.

Edmonds is gilled and gutted, Everett is whole.  Gotta be a few people wondering if "we got weights in these fish" when you flop a 16 on there.  That's a toad for sure!

One year I caught a 14.15lber and took 21st place. In the Everett derby. That’s been about 10 years ago but 16 isn’t huge for this derby

We fished the Snohomish on Saturday, lots of Coho but typical early lockjaw, we went 2 for 0 in my boat, my nephew and brother got one but it should get small fish prize hopefully 👍. Anybody got tips for lockjaw coho in the rivers? We threw everything at them but zip!!! Going to launch down by the crap ponds in Everett this morning and try to catch some of those salt fish as soon as they come into the river and throw some plugs, spinners and twitching jigs and see if they bite better down there.

Float a live sandshrimp under a tiny float.

16 is huge these days.  Last couple winners have been 13.  2nd place this year is 13.24, over three pounds smaller.  Last year the winner was 13.8, and 2021 was like 13.3.  Both 2020 and 2019 were 11 lb fish.  That 16 is a huge outlier.  Fish are way smaller than they were 10 years ago.  21st today is a 10.4 lb fish.
