Looking for experiences folks have with owning, interacting with, hunting over any of the labs from regionally local pointing lab breeders / kennels. We're looking for a family dog that is a great companion first and good bird drive second. We live a stones throw from a release / training site and pheasant will be the primary birds the pup will be hunted over. Duck, Quail, Grouse in the mix as well.
Specifically looking for experience with any of the following (but open to hearing about others):
- Morgan's Point Ranch - (Addy, WA) Jim and Andrea Morgan
- Kreger Lake Kennels (Moses Lake, WA) - Jeremy & Tonya Richards
- High Desert Labs (Richland, WA) - Tim & Kristine Kopf
- Rocky Point Kennels (Billings, MT) - Christopher & Jenna Schmit
There are a few others (Tiger Mountain, SkyRiver, etc.) as well.

Also I believe a member on here (Birdguy) has a male that used to be a guest sire there (my apologies if i am mistaken), i got my dog from him. While I never trained her to hunt, she's the best, sweetest, smartest dog i've had.
Our boarding place who used to board the Seattle PD dogs, says her nose is 10x better than any dog they used to use.
might be worth reaching out to him.

Morgans Point has gone more towards doodles. They are also very restrictive on breeding rights. :rolleyes:
High Desert Labs doesn't title their dogs, and their lines come from a breeder in Tonasket that I feel is questionable. :dunno:
I am not familiar with the other kennel.
I don't consider myself a breeder, but I do have a litter of Chocolate pointing labs planned for spring. Ollie is a 4XGMPR, HRCH, and MH, Gracie is a CPR. Both are OFA certified, and genetically tested.

Don't point worth a darn. Definitely flushers haha. That doesn't bother me though.
Their coats are thin. Really thin. It is a bear to keep them warm while duck hunting. Upland fine, but cold water plunges require a proopane heater.

I have/had three from East Harbor Gun Dogs John Farrow. Amazing hunting dogs. Bird seeking missiles. I am thoroughly impressed, which is why I have had three (one passed, still have two youngins). Super loving dogs.

:yeah: Expect my dog points just fine. I have a coworker that owns 3 more dogs from John and another coworker that has one. All are great hunters, just thinned coated where it's hard to hunt late season waterfowl on the Eastside unless you have a heated blind.
