Title: Evergreen State Smokepole Season…..
Post by: WapitiTalk1 on September 27, 2023, 09:48:31 PM
is almost upon us.  Are you wild bohemians locked and cocked, and ready, to bring a Wapiti home for dinner this year?

I sure am.  My White River tag opens on Saturday.  Took the smoke pole out to bark a few times just to make sure she is dialed in.

First year switching it up after 6 years of archery.  Changed up to allow for more fall fishing mainly.  I'm interested to see how it goes.  I've never shot an elk so it can't get much worse I suppose  :chuckle:

I'll be out there! Convinced my wife to go this year and carry a muzzy. She never liked the idea of misfires or hang fires and the delay if something goes wrong etc. I convinced her it was a rare occasion if you do things right.

Good luck, you all! Looking forward to pictures and stories!

No muzzy for me this year. Between work and a move/job change, got my hands full.

Tic toc indeed Jake. Stopped at range on Ft Lewis today after work and threw 3 projectiles down range.  My smokepole is grouping as well as can be. Pulling out on WED to set up a small camp, scout a bit, and tie a Roosey/RM Elk hybrid to a tree for the opener.  It’s almost time………..

OK, now I have to ask are you shooting a real Smokepole or one of them man-bun-guns with a 209 primer :chuckle:? Over the years I've harvested 3 elk and 6 deer with my old side lock.  :)

Man bun? You know darn well I don’t grow enough grass on my head anymore for a man bun  :chuckle:  But yep, I shoot a new fangled Traditions Strikefire with the 209 primers. Damn thing is pretty darn accurate. I’m hoping to test its “effectiveness” on a stinky bull this year.

BTW, 3 elk and 6 deer with a primitive smokepole is damn respectable. I’m gonna try to hold off with my multi season deer tag and dump a BT with my Strikefire….only if I don’t have a good modern shot at a nice buckasaurus  ;)
