Title: Best Euro Mount Holder
Post by: Ridgerunner on September 28, 2023, 04:02:30 PM
What is the best system you guys have used for hanging Euro's on the wall, I'm talking big, mature bulls, with over 300" of horn on them.  I've looked at skull hooker but wasn't impressed.

Regardless of what you choose, make sure you run a piece of wire or a zip tie through the skull and around the hanger. You won’t see it, but it will keep it from getting knocked off.

I like the skull hooker brand myself.  Have 3 euro elk and they are easy to put up, easy to clean, and only 2 holes in the wall if I want to move them.  Not 300 class but mature Westside Rosie's

I use both skull hooker and Dead on Display. Just depends on the look I’m going for. The dead On display mounts the skull flush on the wall.

Perhaps another idea for you. I make these myself.

I don't have as many sexy horns as these other boys because I'm not that successful of a hunter but I do have a moose euro hanging from the dead on display mount.  I thought it was pretty slick set up.  Kind of depends on what your looking for as far as mounting options.  I looked at the skull hooker.  Can't remember why I went with dead on display but it has worked very well so far.

Ive used this, and it seems to work well.

If I remember correctly there is someone in the taxidermy section on this forum that makes the wood panel style mounts.   Had ones that were straight on and some that hang from one side.

I've welded horse shoes together to make euro mount holders.
Horseshoes are like 2 bucks a shoe at the feed store.
Figure I save a few bucks , doing it myself.
You end up with the same as the skull hooker brand for the most part.
And you really don't have to be the greatest welder to do it.
This pic will give ya the general idea
I've done it both ways, just welded two shoes together.
Or like in the pic,if you need some distance from the wall.
I just put a rebar chunk in there.
The shoe that holds the skull,I just cut a shoe in half ,invert it upside down and weld it on there. So it goes into the skull where the brain is.  I also zip tie it on there .so it doesn't fall off.
It is a little tricky getting everything lined up.
Something like an elk ,id probably have to spread the shoe apart to make it fit in the eye socket.

I used the smaller mount from Skull hooker for my last elk and mule deer. I had to modify the base of the mule deer skull so the antlers didn't hit the wall behind it. I could have gotten the larger mount that swivels, but I was going for subtle and hidden.

I just run a piece of leather string thru the holes on the back of the head and tie them together and then hang it off a basic 100lb picture hanger. It’s cheap and works great

Seems like a solid idea, cheap too.
I might even give it a try.

I use these. A little spendy but they are beefy, will hold a 300" bull.
