Forgot to post this earlier - this was in August - I'm out for a ride on my electric unicycle up the Methow and stopped to fiddle with my phone. This critter walked outta the trees 50 yds away and laid down. Appeared to care less I was there. I made a few phone calls, took a lot of pics and videos for about an hour and it spent most of the time laying down looking at me. Curious maybe, or possibly it's den was nearby, who knows. I only had a new phone on me, and didn't notice until later I didn't have it set on that high of resolution. Dangit!
In the video you can laugh at the different sounds, woops, whistles, etc I tried on it. I believe because of this location it's part of the Navarre pack. In the first pic you can see it laying down next to the tree where I'm pointing. The 2nd pic is five of the same pack on Oct 3rd. I've had several encounters now with Methow wolves since 2009, this is far and away the weirdest. Usually they stop to take a look, and then after a second or two take off running the other way.

They really are unique, some run like heck, others you cant scare away. In a way its a cool encounter and in other ways it is just sickening.

That's crazy!
Thanks for sharing.

Hey fair enough! Maybe it was curious!
On another note, I've found it a great way to get around the backroads, trails and water barred fs roads. Its capable of close to 40mph and gets about 100 miles per charge and fits a space not much bigger than a briefcase!

40 MPH on a unicycle sounds slightly dicey.
Any go-pro footage of previous yard sale wrecks?

Nope, no wreck footage yet! :) Most of my riding is done around 20mph on the backroads. So far, the times I have wiped out have been at close to zero mph negotiating some sort of obstacle in the trail.
This is not me, nor do I have have any desire to do this, but the EUC's are crazy capable. Here's somebody that jumps it quite a distance!

I would be curious as well. Heck I've watched Matt Dryke shoot a perfect round of skeet riding a unicycle. I watched a guy fall out of his SXS looking for tracks.
It was different type of encounter that most will not experience thanks for sharing.

Don’t know for sure but I agree that maybe a den was near :dunno:. I’ve only had two encounters with wolves in the Methow, one was the wolf that stared us down in the road and the other was the one(late 90,s) that shadowed us as we went down a road. He was up on the bank about 20 or so yards away in the trees, when we stopped it would stop and lay down. We would stand there for a few minutes and start walking, it stood up and started walking. Pretty spooky when that close and knowing there was probably more we couldn’t see. We threw some rocks and fired some 4-10 shots in the air and it eventually disappeared. The whole ordeal lasted for about 20 minutes, it was a wolf, no doubt. This was a couple years after the “road square off” encounter in the same area. Dang things have been around a lot longer than what we’ve been told. Funny how that herd started its downfall around the same time folks really started noticing wolves(that arnt there👍), our Game Department was done away with and hound hunting was abolished but they tell us today the demise of the Methow herd is caused by everything else but.😢 :bash:
I for one am not fooled. Sorry Sooperfly. I would say neat encounter but that herd means more to me than a wolf, that’s just me.

Thanks for the share, things are tough in the valley, just trying to figure out if you are edible

Last Sunday I hiked into one of my cams and when I was done messing with it this guy started up right behind me howling and barking like crazy! His barking and howling, etc probably lasted 20 plus minutes while I sat and watched.
The video is just for the sound, you can't see him in the trees. It's pretty loud in the video, but sitting there it was much louder!

That dude will be lucky to make it through general season if he keeps that up

He knows your there, he's doing it on purpose barking at you like that. It's a trick they like to use. My guess is you are close to something he doesn't want you to be. Either their den, or a kill or something. I've seen them do this numerous times. It's his way to get you to follow him in another direction

That dog looks to be wearing a more expensive necklace than my wife has. Love seeing taxpayer dollars at use here.

I've noticed these have two types of collars. This one looks plasticky and is bigger. Must be GPS? The others look smaller and more metallic looking, maybe those are the radio ones.

Consider yourself lucky it didn't try to mount your leg.

They love and are thriving in the new/old burns. The wildfires have been fantastic for them. Sight hunting. It’s completely changed how deer are reacting or acting in the high country.
