Title: No horns
Post by: baldopepper on October 16, 2023, 07:49:34 AM
Have around 30 hanging around the house, but no bucks.  Unusual year as usually there are at least two or three bucks in the yard herd.  Seems to be the story most of the hunters around are seeing. Does and fawns ( nice crop.of fawns) but no bucks yet.

We only have two does with fawns out of seven breed able does.. So this herd has 10 mulies. NO bucks. 12 years ago the herd numbered 34

I think your place is more predator friendly with much heavier cover right behind you.  We're surounded by more broken, open terrain.  Deer quite often bed down right in the middle of the open fields around us where an ambush is harder to pull off. I've also seen more bear and lions over your way.  One of the kids had a trail cam out all summer closer to you and it is literally full of bears ( one with 3 cubs) and lions. Not even a big deal to see lions any more, of course never when I have a gun ready.
