Title: The luckiest doe until she wasn't
Post by: bb76 on October 19, 2023, 07:35:00 PM

The first day of my muzzleloader deer hunt found me in my blind before first light. After a couple of  hours I noticed one of the larger does I had spotted on my trail cam before the season. This particular area is either sex. As I slowly grabbed my gun, she must have caught my movement. The doe gave a snort and stamp as she circled my blind. After being busted, I checked my watch to see what time the next doe might stop by. Almost like clockwork she came walking up the trail. I raised my gun and slowly cocked the hammer. Pop went my cap as I pulled the trigger and my doe ran off down the trail. After removing the nipple and checking to see if there was any powder under the nipple I was ready to try it again. Later in the afternoon a third doe came walking down the trail. This time I was ready! My gun finally went boom but this time I missed. In my haste I neglected to use my set trigger and messed up my shot. At this point I'm just too irritated to hunt so I pack it in for the day. The next morning I'm out in my blind waiting again. After about two hours here comes the second doe I had seen the day before. I slowly raise my gun and cock the hammer as quietly as possible. Pop goes the cap but this time the deer doesn't take off she just continues eating. I grab another cap and pop! At this point I have to grab more caps from my bag and as I open my caps I dump them into my lap. While I'm doing this the doe is still acting like nothing has happened. Finally I get another cap on and this time my gun goes off. My deer disappeared in a cloud of smoke. I'm thinking myself I can't believe I missed again?! After thinking it over I decided to walk around through the brush just to give myself piece of mind. After walking about 10 yards I found the blood trail. 20 yards later I found the doe dead in some ferns.

This was by far my craziest deer hunt.
