Title: Starting to show up
Post by: baldopepper on October 24, 2023, 09:24:42 AM
Went for a little early drive around this morning and several of the little herds of does and fawns I've been seeing suddenly have a buck with them.  All small bucks so far though, but suspect the bigger boys with start blending in now that it's quieting down.

Still seeing the does/fawns wandering around without any bucks but do see them feeding in same areas and near a spring at same time but always leaving as solo bucks and doe/fawn groups.

Still not seeing the better bucks until literally the last 15 minutes of legal shooting and that doesnt mean you can always see to shoot.  No sign of the travelers (roaming bucks from surrounding areas) yet.  Usually not noticeable until next month.

A few decent bucks, nothing to get all excited about.  One is a day 1 shooter but he chooses to NOT be seen except for every 4-5 days and then its without a chance for a shot.  Im waiting to see who shows up for the late season as last year there were a couple large variety bucks hanging with the ready does but they were too smart to get themselves into trouble.

Try putting out a little scent.  Put some out in the yard yesterday and had two small bucks show up  this morning with the usual herd of yard does and fawns .  Noses in the air and eying over the does.

Some photographers I know are picking up some big ones.  They have magically appeared

Im not lacking any sightings, especially young bucks.  Even if I decide a meat buck is in order, it will be a bit older hence bigger bodied buck to convince me to shoot.  The 4 bucks I have in mind barring any surprises by travelers , would send most hunters into panic mode even though they are merely above average.  Im in the look but dont shoot mode until late season, but my wife isnt as likely to let a nice meat buck pass.
