Been hitting it hard all of archery and muzzleloader season with a few very very close calls. Was feeling a little down on myself but that all changed opening day of eastern rifle. Spotted a herd 1000 yards away first thing at 7am. Cut the distance in half, about as close as I could get and made out a spike in the group. Ranged him 500 on the dot. Dialed the scope and got setup. Was very solid on the spike I let it fly. Heard the impact and saw him hunch. He backtracked a couple steps then turned around. At a slow walk trying to follow the herd I hit him again. He was still up so one more for good measure. This eastern WA combat rifle hunting is all new to me
he went down and I made my way over to him. First shot right behind the shoulder demolishing the ribs, second 2 toward the back of ribs. Recovered all 3 bullets in the offside hide. 6.5 PRC 147 Gr. ELD match bullets did their job and created quite the devastation, I couldn’t be more happy with this round. Got some quick pics, made a call to my buddy and his wife that were hunting near and they made their way to me to help pack him out. Was a great morning! Way to go! I'm impressed with the bullet performance at 500 yds! Although if I remember right that's the Hornady bullet that's designed for long range with the "heat shield technology" isn't it? Regardless, nice shooting!

Your an elk magnet..
I love the performance of the Eldm out of the PRC.....the ones I've recovered retain nearly 100 percent of their weight. And the accuracy is excellent.

Eh it's a dink..

Ya know, since you can only shoot the dinks here….. :chuckle:
-
Congrats! Those do look like they performed well.

Good work!

You know I was just teasing, love ya man

Great job! You have had an epic season with the family and that is one tasty looking spike

Congrats on filling the tag! When I worked in the industry, multiple people at Hornady told me they would never use the ELDM on an animal but that looks like pretty good performance to me! My preference is still a bullet that leaves an exit hole, but I know opinions vary on that.
In this case that might also have more to do with the bullet caliber/weight to size of animal ratio (I assume that bullet would pass through a deer).
Congrats on filling the freezer. I love hunting but sometimes after extensive effort and time, it’s a bit of a relief to be done!

There are lots and lots of animals being killed with eld-m's these days. I much prefer them over the eld-x in .264 cal cartridges. Congrats on the eastside unicorn BB

I don’t doubt it. I know it sells well. But you could kill an animal with an FMJ bullet. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ideal. Unless you get a bullet that splatters on impact, most bullets into the boiler room will kill the animal, eventually.
These recovered bullets look pretty ideal to me and the animal is dead. So hard to argue with this result!
I have more thoughts on bullets but don’t want to hijack this thread. Congrats again on the tasty eats!

As much as I like an exit hole I really like these bullets that dump all of their energy in the body cavity causing havoc on the organs. @Karl Blanchard what are your thoughts on these bullets 😜

The traditional crowd doesn't like what I have to say about bullets lol.
I'd take a .243 with a 105gr Berger VLD for elk over a 300 win mag with a Barnes :chuckle: :hello:

First off want to say congrats on what looks like a freaking kick butt season.
Way to get it done.
Eldx compared to eldm is basically nothing.
There is a good video on YouTube on the ultimate reloader channel.
That compare both bullets.
Basically the same bullet.
I'm not gonna post a link on someones harvest topic.
But go check it out.
Pretty much same bullet. One has better BC than the other.

:chuckle: fair enough

You betcha, nice work BB.

If you didn't have to fist fight at least 3 people to tag your own animal it doesn't count.

It’s really unfortunate that actually happens.

Congrats on opening day success!

I got really lucky, only saw one guy come over the ridge while I was taking care of the elk. About 700 yards away.
