Headed east this next week for my wife’s late whitetail
Palouse tag. Anyone seeing any pre rut activity? We’re running a few cameras different locations and all we’ve seen so far is plenty of does (which is good). What are you guys seeing?
-
Hunted a few days down in the Palouse last week. I've seen some nice bucks out. Should be a good weekend for you guys
-
Plenty of deer activity. Whitetails on the Washington Palouse are recovering, but they are not back to pre-2021 levels. That said, yes, seeing scrapes and rubs, and more buck appearances here and there!
Best of luck to your wife, JDW! A little bit of rattling and grunting might be considered, as well as watching "pinch points" where a buck will have to pass to stay in protective cover (such as between two open fields).

Awesome can’t wait! Hoping to get her a whitetail buck in the books

I’m seeing more activity than usual actually. Not specifically rut, but I assume it’s related to see mid day bucks and whitetails up wandering around.

Thanks Bone!

Anybody noticing rut activity for whitetails up in the Methow? I've got the late buck tag for Alta. Headed up later this week.
-
Last couple days have been very active. Starting to see some small bucks showing up on the cameras!!
-
Just seen a nice one trailing a doe.
Got a pretty good pic of him too.
I'd post it,but I don't wanna give ya guys the buck fever that I have right now.
Going to my reloading desk. Checking zero on Friday.
Its on like donkey Kong!
I'm shaking like a leaf in a wind storm right now,And I'm back home sitting in my recliner. :chuckle:
There is nothing better than seeing a buck on the hoof.
Trail cams and all will never replace seeing it in person.
If you can't tell my blood is flowing.

Bucks are super nocturnal at our place as of last weekend. That said, the little bucks have disappeared and there are some absolute dandies running around at midnight now.
I had a Gardner buck tag in 2020 and shot my buck on the 14th. Seemed like good prerut activity. He came 300 yards across private, jumped the fence while smelling a doe I was sitting on. He was on the private land with several other does which would say to me it wasn't happening with them yet.
Should be a good hunt. Might be a little hard to find ground in Alta to chase them if you don't have private access.

Today should be the day. The warmer weather isn’t helping. It’s slowed Muley rut activity tremendously. I mean it still happens, just not as rambunctious

Went out this morning with my wife. We seen 6 different groups of does not a single buck hanging out with them. Yesterday was rough, the wind was howling all day. We
never seen a deer moving around all day.
-
Saw quite a bit of activity this morning, two little bucks with their noses to the ground. Saw this buck last week along with three smaller bucks. Got a bit of a hydrocyst growing.
-
What I've seen today ....
I jumped two smaller bucks today.
One I could of taken a shot,but wasn't broadside.
Only neck and head visible, both small bucks was in the act of scraping trees when I jumped them .
I'm gonna say in my area it's pre-rut or rutting activity going on.
No sign of any big boys though.
My theory is ......
Alot of small bucks are being pushed off of private by there bigger counter parts.
So ya ,I let one walk today ,cause the shot wasn't ideal.
The other just got away to fast.
Both was in the act of scraping, when jumped.
My boy got a spike yesterday. So the smaller ones are definitely on the move. With some rut activities.

Finally some daylight movement. Unit 127
-
Starting to chase, one of the kids got this one when it followed a doe out
-
My buddy got this one coming in hot this morning....
-
Very nice! Congrats to the hunter.
