Heading over next week for my first whitetail. Any other permit holders been out? Hoping I time it right and bucks are on the move.
-
Whitetail or Muledeer?
-
Whitetail, it’s just a buck tag. From what I’ve heard it can be awesome this time of year
-
Don't be afraid to get aggressive and do some rattling and grunting. The Primos estrus can is no gimmick either.
-
Sounds good I’ll def try some rattling and calling. Keep you posted !
-
Best of luck. Plenty of whitetails if you know where to look. Let us know how you do.
-
You should be hitting it just right next week. Good luck
-
Good timing
-
How many points did you have to draw this tag?
I am starting to see some daylight activity.
-
Drew with 11pts on a second drawing. Someone turned in their tag and I was next in line. Found out a month ago. Then they sent me the wrong tag for a different unit in the mail, finally got the correct permit. Just trying to make the best of it. I’ve had some guys hook me up with good info. I appreciate any tips I can get

Look for the whitetails down lower in and on the edges of ag fields. Mule deer higher up. Various public land available otherwise start door knocking, bring something to offer in trade, salmon or crab always works well for me on the east side. Ruth should be in full swing, as it was starting few units south last week. Good luck. Hh

I pulled several absolute monsters out of that area when I lived in Curlew. From now until Thanksgiving is perfect timing. My recommendation is similar, stay low, look for doe and cover tons of ground if you can’t get permission on private. OnX will be your best friend. And hunt right until you can’t look out of your scope, then give it 5 more min 😂 But seriously those last couple min are golden.
-
How’d the hunt go? Was perfect conditions when I was up there last week
-
Conditions sure seemed good once again, but for the second year in a row, the whiteys there seemed to be behind. :twocents:
-
Yeah should line up perfect for late archery

I had this tag a few years ago and whiffed. Didn't see a single whitetail buck. Saw lots of does and kept expecting a buck to be following one, but never found one. It was a great experience, but wasn't the slam dunk I had expected. Tons of snow that year. I hunted around Bonaparte.
-
Honestly the deer movement was pretty slow, I saw 3 bucks during the three days I hunted. Covered miles of ground in multiple chunks of nat forest, even made a few decent hikes, tried rattling a few times. First deer east of the mountains, I’m a pretty hard blacktail hunter so it was nice for a change. I expected to see a lot more deer but it sounds like there’s usually more snow this time of year. Sunny days. Still had a great time, I shot the biggest out of the three I saw. I’m happy with him
