I stopped by Cabela's this morning looking for a birthday present for my dad. Made the mistake of walking through the gun library and saw a really nice 1100 magnum with a screw choke barrel for $299 :yike: so I had to get the wallet out.
Now's where it gets weird, I had to fill out a "state 4473" along with the usual paperwork, but when I got up to pay the employee told me that I shouldn't have to wait more than a week to get my shotgun. "Wait, I don't get to just bring it home today?," I asked. Apparently along with the usual instant background check they now also have to go through WSP and the process takes days?
I've been doing some looking on the internet and haven't found any other stories of this happening, I figure it would've been all over facebook by now. Anyone had this same experience? The last gun I bought was back in the summer and didn't have this new paper paperwork or anything (it was a revolver though).

Where have you been?
Any semi auto is now an assault weapon here.
Thank the coasties and the people they elect.

They have started using the WSP SAFE system. Sometimes the check comes back in a few hours. Sometimes a few days.
Some dealers have not started using it. Choose wisely.

All dealers have to start using the WSP background checks system Jan 1. Some of the high volume dealer have been selected to participate on a trial basis. Once all the dealers have to start using it, wait times will likely increase. This applies to all firearm purchases, not just semi autos.

I bought a S&W M&P last month from Sportco and my check came back in 2hrs. I was shocked to say the least.

I ran into this with a used 870 at Bass Pro a few weeks back.

I am glad I will likely never need to buy another gun.

if you not willing to buy a gun cuz of paperwork then they winning. I don't "need" to buy any more guns but paperwork ain't stopping me from buying what I want

My next gun is going to be a black powder side by side shotgun… and then maybe a side by side rifle…. I like black powder lol
Actually even up in Alaska this past summer when it bought my 30-06 and 12 gauge I got delayed on both for a few days which I thought was odd
I’m so glad I’m working towards Alaska residency

From what I have seen so far it is making the purchase of a pistol a little faster but turning the purchase of a long gun into a longer process. Not just going to take it home same day any more.
Makes it tough when you find a good deal when you’re on a road trip. It has probably saved me some money because I didn’t want to have to go back in a couple days.

In my case, the wife was out of town that day and I wouldn’t have to worry about sneaking it into the safe when she’s not looking. So much for the perfect crime :chuckle:

Skagit Arms started using this system I believe back on Sept. 1st. The state now gets to create an extensive list of who has guns and what guns they may have.
-
I recently had to wait 5 days to pick up a used bolt action .223. I was surprised when I couldn't take it home with me the same day. I guess making me wait 5 days to pick up a coyote hunting rifle makes someone feel safer?

Haven't they had that ability for quite a while now? I guess this new system makes it more efficient

I heard that they were imposing a fee as well, is that in effect? The report I heard said something like $18 per gun.

Elections have consequences! Support/vote for a D, expect to have MORE consequences!! :bash:

The fee is currently set at $18 and will be per transaction, not per firearm. Fees will begin Jan. 1.

Sounds a lot like a poll tax

I am. He was the only NRA A+ rated D house member as I recall and also the chairman of the House Natural resources committee. Sadly he is no longer in office to protect us. That said he was cut from the old school Blue Collar Pro union pro hunting and fishing part of the party. His absence means that the Dems do not represent that constitutioncy much anymore. Yes Some Dems are pretty good on our issues but none of them was a fierce defender like blake.

Bought a SP101 about 2 months ago. Waited almost a month to the day before the check cleared. Never had a check on anything go longer than 5 days. Had me ripping my hair out. Was about ready to just go cancel the whole damn thing
