Went to Montana for the first time with a few buddies last week. My hunting partner for the trip shot a nice, wide 3x4 on our first day at sundown, his first deer. We packed him out and noticed what looked like light pollution on the horizon. Strange for the middle of nowhere Montana. Sure enough, it was the Northern Lights. A long exposure was needed to really capture them, but one of the guys is pretty talented with the DSLR.
Anyways, here's a couple photos. Definitely getting some prints of these! In all likelihood some OIL photos.

Awesome pics. OIL likely

Those are incredible shots! Just to get the Aurora is tough enough. That belongs in a magazine.

Cool pictures 👍

That is sweet! I would put that on canvas, thanks for sharing.

I haven't said it in awhile.
Heck ya bud.
Don't get better than that.

Absolutely amazing! Myself and some pards ran into them once in the Methow. 50 years or so ago. Those lights and those memories will never be forgotten. Not many get to experience them. Those pictures are absolutely amazing!!!!

Fantastic
Any recommendations on print types that would show the detail best? I'd like the stars to show up well and feel like they might blur/blend in print.

A picture that will last longer than the memory of the nice buck. Awesome capture of the perfect moment.
-
Man, that is really cool. You'll all be glad you spent those few extra minutes! Thank you for sharing them.

Wowzers, awesome pics.

Stunning photos! Those need to be published somehow!

Great photos! The northern lights are cool. Northern lights with a buck in a pack epic!

I would look into how Montana selects a picture for their hunting regs, and I would submit it.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you won.

I haven't done much with it, but I hear metal is really good if you are looking for something that showcases vibrant colors and contrast. Might be worth it. I think this screams that, and it might make the stars really pop

The guy that shot the buck got his grip and grin on metal as well and it looks great. Sounds like that’s the move!

If anyone has a Rokslide account, please consider going and voting for this photo in the Mule Deer Photo Contest thread. Would be awesome to see a Washington guy win it!

Those pics are freaking sweet ! Be a cool poster , shirt, or make. A real nice large framed photo very cool

I took your idea and ran with it. I had a pretty decent aurora shot and a pretty decent silhouette and combined the two. I do almost zero photoshopping other than cropping and resizing and some white balance, but it was a fun project. The fact you were able to do the real deal is pretty awesome! Good luck on the contest. I'm not a member, but still went to check it out. There is some good competition.

I voted for you. Great pic good luck

Thanks to anyone who popped over to the slide and voted, we took the win! A nice bonus to the already great memories from that trip.
