Title: PSA! viral dog illness with major mortality concerns happening

so i lost my 13 yo Large Munsterlander to this a few weeks ago. Only contact with any other dogs was at a wellness visit to vet before she came down with this. The virus was totally resistant to any antibiotics tried, 4 weeks later she was gone. I really am frustrated beyond with the VET who knew my girl had a life long immune issue that we had under control and didnt reach out to discuss visit options. To me, the wellness visit, had i known , would have been skipped period. May be a great idea to consider options right now for kennel stays, dog parks, un-needed vet visits or even hunting with other dogs paired with yours. This is a bad virus with no drugs to counter, pretty much a death sentence for older or problem dogs period. This has been happening since 2022 but is spreading like wildfire now!

Sorry to hear that brother.  I do thank you for the information.  My Beagle is due rather soon, but I may just postpone it for a while, as well as ask questions up front.

I just read this after taking my pup and hearing about it from my vet. They suggested that I have her vaccinated against bordatella. I don’t board my dogs and that wasn't on my list. But after hearing that someone lost their pup to this I went ahead with it, she suggested that the vaccination may help prevent it.
My condolences to the op on losing a family member.
