I put a camera on me for a rattling sequence just for an idea of how I usually go about it. I was going to edit it down but I left it full length just for real time purposes. The buck came crashing in while I was still rattling. Took me quite a while to decide if I wanted to shoot him. The camera rolling ultimatelt made me decide to and I'm glad I did.

For some reason it won’t play for me

Nice job 3 nails! I really enjoyed the video. You got a dandy!
-
Dude very cool! Thanks for sharing glad you shared entire video my oldest kid loved it nice job

Now I am mad at myself I didn’t go out this weekend. After chasing and photographing muleys for 3 weeks, I figured I’d go chase whities. I decided to stay home. Nice video and buck.
-
Thanks for sharing the entire video and congrats on the buck!
-
awesome video, that video showing you doing the sequence is much more valuable and a better learning moment for me compared to a chopped up video with the kill shot, thanks so much for posting this. couple questions though. What made you choose that spot to rattle, where the tracks, just nice open timber, rattled there before, etc., and if you didnt rattle a buck, or passed that buck, how far would you go before another setup. thanks again and congrats
-
Congratulations your buck. Thanks for sharing.
-
Awesome, thanks for sharing

retweet!
Also- absolutely love the video
to go with those questions/ ask my own
generally how long would your sequence gone should the buck not have come crashing in?
And then if unsuccessful how long before you start a new sequence?
Thanks for any other help but the video is fantastic!

This was a completely new area to me this year. Deer used to be found in abundance in almost all drainages but after the wolf boom they move around away from predation and I have to relocate the best numbers every year. My favorite drainage was virtually void of deer sign this year. I found good sign in this area, found bedding areas in the ninebark and rattled the edges. This was the 2nd time rattling that morning about 2 hrs and 2 hundred yards apart.

Excellent video! Thanks for posting.
Maybe I missed it but which way was the wind blowing? I.e. In your face on the rattling stand? At your back? from one side or the other, uphill or down?
Man that is beautiful open country.
-
Cool video!
-
Super cool. I don’t recall seeing a video of your blacktail sequence is it similar?
-
Great video, you sure know your stuff I still remember the amazing seminar you put on. Thanks for sharing!!!

This was an evening hunt and the thermals were dropping. That's why I was mostly focused on across and up the ridge. A couple hours before this, when they were still rising, I had a buck come in from above me and blow up the whole mountainside when he smelled me. :chuckle:

Yes but I'm not nearly as successful with blacktails.
-
I really appreciate the fact that this has either encouraged or helped some of you. Since I'm not tech savvy it takes me longer than most to create and post things. Your comments have made it worthwhile. :hello:

First - thank you for posting the rattling video. I just started attempting this year for blacktail in SW WA. No luck yet but no issue with continuing to try.
One question if you don't mind answering - what is the call you used at the beginning of your sequence? I don't have any calls. I was just using an old set of antlers to rattle but would like to up my game if possible.
Thank you
-
I'll say it again, great video content.
I carried rattling antlers in my day pack more this year, than other years. Definitely inspired by your success.
Thanks for posting, taking the time to record it.👍

Thank you! Excellent info, good of you to share such tactics learned by long experience!
I've rattled in a number of small to medium racked whitetails, but only one really BIG buck (that I know about anyway :)) You are exceptionally good at rattling in big ones! Bravo!
-
Great Job, very inspiring !

The first call was just your standard issue estrus bleat can. The grunt tube was a new one for me that I'm very pleased with. I've had several Primos tubes but this one is very soft. The most realistic sounding one I've ever used.

Great video! Thanks for sharing!

I still have your tutorial video from 6 or so years ago saved in my YouTube and have watched it multiple times. Nice work.
-
I sure do appreciate all these rattling posts. Been reading them for years and You got me and now my boy hooked. I've rattled in a few blacktails and several whitetails. Took my boy over for the first time this year to idaho and rattled his buck in and now that's all he wants to do :chuckle: I rattled in my cousins buck also and his came crashing in snorting up a storm and he took him at 15yds!
