After hearing lots of folks think things were pushed back a little bit/were a little later than normal, shedding might just be the opposite this year. I just witnessed a whitetail drop both sides in the last 30 hours. Late season hunters, grab those antlers gently when ground checking them.
-
Whoa! Don’t say that all you are doing is riling up people out hunting still ! Antlers aren’t dropping ! This is sarcasm as I was called out by a member saying moose don’t drop in November

They don’t drop early. That’s why someone got a moose over here on the last day and the paddles were in the bed of his pickup. Must of shot them off :chuckle:

Must of been
Why I’ve seen 3 paddles found just from fb friends. Some how they found the only 3 that have dropped in the whole region
-
Some deer always has to be the first, but I certainly wouldn’t expect a deer to be dropping now, especially in the rut. I assume not healthy. They will shed early if sick. Moose on the other hand are dropping all over the place which is quite normal.
-
I've seen an Elliot deer or moose this time of year.
Definitely happens every year, some early drops.
Not to say I've also seen some holding into January and February.
My theory is ,the harder they rut, faster they drop.
But who really knows, too much science stuff for me.
-
It’s early for deer, but getting close. I’ve killed 3 bucks now dec 13-15 that antlers fell off.

I've killed a few late buck ,bucks that felt like is was gonna bust off when I started dragging it.
So did you find the other side on the blood trail.
Or did you recover both sides.
Or where you left with an Elliot deer mount.
-
I usually find my first sheds every year over Christmas Break, less than a month away 🤙🏻
-
Probably still have those horns if it wasnt for the 4x4s. :twocents:

Plenty of people, including myself, pick up sheds at home off their feeders and hay piles without the use of vehicles.
-
The 4x4 posts on the feeder which resembles a shed trap......

 you're insane. First, there were no 4x4s in that picture. And there is nothing trap like about it, it's a basic feeder.

Last year I had a buck drop before the general season even started and two that shed during the season all legal.
-
Date is right on this pic..Healthy deer ..The same deer shed 5 days later (15th) the next year. I found the one from the 10th right after he shed and the one from the 15th the next year right after he shed
-
Gender identity issues??? :chuckle:

I usually have a few on cam that look just like that by Christmas.
Yup,pretty normal.

Haha I was on a Sitka Blacktail hunt with some buddies out of Cordova, Alaska. At the end of the day we all met up at a friend's cabin on Hawkins Island. Young guy had gotten a real nice buck and couldn't wait to show it off. He jumped in the skiff his buck was in and grabbed it by the antlers and Pulled with all his might to lift it high enough for us all to see it and the antlers fell off. He was pulling so hard he fell over backwards out of the skiff into the water with an antler in each hand. We had a great laugh and of course he got a good ribbing. He did get the first turn in the sauna that night.

That's funny as heck.
Man I love those moments.

Every year someone posts deer are dropping early lol. It’s not early when it’s normal.

Just now

Youll be alright… i read in another thread that nothing sheds in Dec. 😬

And he keeps trolling my comments and old posts after I was blocked from one of his...this is why I'm silent on here 90% of the time anymore. It's best they just keep assuming those bulls hold paddles till about May any ways. Saddest part of the season was finding a bull that had been shot and left in 117. Found a set of last years paddles about 300 yds from him.

Yup,I don't share much of my harvest pics, trail cam,and miscellaneous stuff anymore too.
Is what it is.
But I do share some stuff. :chuckle:

I’ve noticed a dramatic decrease in pictures on this site due to keyboard knit pickers ( shed trap feeder  ) Hunters knit picking other Hunters is killing us.

It’s the Internet people have fun on the internet in ways you might not understand., whats killing us is soft skinned people who get offended and leave because they read to into things strangers say.
-
He's right! I just checked one of my "turkey feeders" and the deer must be stealing the turkey feed, look at that!

Me personally, there are a few reasons I don't post pics anymore.
First and foremost,a handful of members know where I live, know my truck . Any game cam pics ,by knowing personal stuff about me.
Or my pickup parked in locations they know my spots.
Which is annoying to say the least ,cause I know zero about them.
On top of that, many members run pics through sites like this one.
Social media at its best.
https://www.pic2map.com/
I had a harvest pic this year criticized, and pretty much accused of
being a criminal, cause I blocked my face out.
Third reason the ethics police is strong on HW.
Not necessarily illegal, but why even deal with it.
So for those reasons,I choose not to post pics.
Maybe a recipe,or a project, or something like that I might post a pic. Definitely not any game cam or harvest pics.
Just to stay on topic,
Got a pic just a day ago of a decent buck, still had both sides.
Looks like others that do post pics, still have bucks with both sides.
Definitely hit and miss on antlers dropping.
-
I’m checking my yard daily. Got more bucks staying around the property more this year so hopefully I’ll get more than a single set of spikes.

LOL there are reasons you don’t post pictures anymore but you’re willing to give out people’s hunting spots? Can’t say I’ve seen anyone that likes to hear themselves talk more than you.

Well is what it is bud.
Everyone has a spot.
Truth is,nobody has a spot if it's public .
Sad about the pic,or you sad about your spot.
You tell me. 😂

Ya ... 😂
There used to be a company that sold one just like that.
I believe it was called.
The rack trap. Or something like that. :chuckle:
Just to add, still seeing bucks with both sides.
Still hit and miss on sheds,my observation.

Ya because it’s still really early. Horn dropping can be thought of like a bell curve. Some drop really early some drop really late but there’s about 3 weeks where most of them drop.
-
This guy dropped on December 15th at about 330 p.m. about 20 years ago. Dropped one side right when I shot him and the other side when he went down about 20 yds later :chuckle: I think thats the earliest I've seen a deer shed on the ground. I picked up an elk shed this year on April 21st that I know wasn't there less then a week prior. Definitely a wide range, I think the bell curve reference is accurate.
-
Little buck with a single this am, agree with the bell curve but with spikes in the graph for bad weather events
