Title: European Mounts
Post by: Shannon on December 10, 2023, 01:51:37 PM
Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who can do a Euro mount for me? I actually have a couple I need done and my usual guys is 18 months behind. Anywhere from Seattle North would work.
Thanks

I use 10 Point Taxidermy in Marysville.  He's done 2 euros, 2 bears (rug and shoulder mount), and 2 deer shoulder mounts.  So far, no complaints.  The turnaround for my euro mounts was less than two weeks.  I don't know the TAT as we speak.

I’ve used Paul for three euros as well. Always a reasonable cost and turnaround. Asked him to inlet a jawbone and the spent cartridge into the backside of the board on my last one, like some roe deer mounts my FIL had done in Germany. It’s a nice touch, IMO.

Found a pic of the inletted jawbone and case that Paul did for me, for anyone that wants to add a lil extra touch to a mount. He did some grinding on the inside of the jaw to allow it to lay flat and flush. I added some rubber fisheyes on the board to help it hang perfectly, as the WSM shell was a bit proud. Another for 10 point. Communication and turn around was better than expected, and I got to see some giant wa elk he was taking care of when I picked this up. If you left your wa state quality elk there a couple years ago… congrats. Probably the biggest antlers I’ll ever see.

Does no one do their own Europ mounts?  It's really easy and not a messy process.  I flesh and freeze my skulls till the end of season.  Pull everything out on a good sunny day, put on a crab pot full of salt water to boil.  Using a wire I hang just the white bone in the water to render and cook of any flesh.  Final touches are made with a stiff brush and loose sea salt as a scrubbing medium.  Once fleshed and clean I hang them to dry.  If you decide to whiten them you can use concentrated hydrogen peroxide on a clean diaper wrapped around the white bone.
