Title: Looking Cell cam feedback
Post by: millerwheeler on December 19, 2023, 05:25:23 PM
Well for the first time ever I took down all my cameras  , a lot of them have been out  for years , and have been well used . Anyway I’m looking  at buying 6 to 10 cell cams  for a few areas  looking at the spypoints as there plan looks great but want to hear what other have had to deal with I have heard some horror stories on most brands but let me know . I’ll still be running all my other cams after some are repaired, cleaned and re camo.

Thank you for feedback

I have SPYPOINT Flex and Tactacam reveal X and I like the pic and video quality better on the Tactacam. Both have similar plans. The SPYPOINT has a free plan though. The Tactacam is a bit more adjustable in the settings.

Had any issues with either ? Cams would be up 6 months or so if they came down at all

I have two Tactacams and both are great, you can choose either Verizon or att whichever gives your spot the best coverage. I had a spypoint and it flat out sucked for me.

Same boat here.. Got a couple buddies with the tacticam and they don’t have any bad things to say about them, curious about the multiple cam/plan prices tho.

Think I’m at $23 a month with 2 cams unlimited plus on demand picture. Don’t get a coffee couple times a month and call it a day.

I’ve had 3 tacticam reveals. They’ve been great, haven’t had an issue with them which can’t be said for my buddy’s Stealth Cam cellulars.

I only say “had” because they’re still out there and dead waiting for retrieval. One lasted July 4th to December 3rd, but didn’t get much action. The other two lasted mid-July to early October but got hammered. Had to set them to 5 minute delay after the first few days and still got 50+ photos some days. the overage protection with the Tacticam plan is nice. Would buy again.

I’ve been quite pleased as well. The pro model is perfect I think

I’m two months into two tacticam pros, both with unlimited plans.  Running lithium batteries and am currently at 60 and 70 percent life left.   Cams are averaging 125 photos a day.    At 9:30am and 7:30pm, it’s like Christmas morning for me.  That’s when I have the cams set to send photos.   Zero complaints.

I’ll probably go with the tacticams, 1 for now and probably add some more at some point. I haven’t researched it enough but I was curious if there was other brands that had a better plan/price for multiple cams on the same account.

What’s the cost for running 6?

Don't get spy points they are garbage in my opinion.  Have had nothing but problems with mine.  Started with 4 and only 2 are still working.  I since bought 5 stealthcams cells to try out since all my non cell cams are stealths.  So far I have been satisfied with them.

What’s the cost for running 6?
$10 a months per cam and unlimited photos.

I may switch plans based on the number of photos I’m getting each month on them.

$7 for 1,000 photos a month
$4 for 250 photos a month
$0 for 100 photos a month

I have had one go bad but they replaced it for free.

The Spypoints are really pretty good, especially the Flex models.  The picture quality from the Flex is really good, and so is the trigger, lots of critters centered perfectly.  The Micros are good too, and simple, with the rechargeable battery pack, I can get 6 to 10 months.

my spypoints are just okay. In areas with poor service only some of the photos will transmit. I see photos that were never transmitted to me when I examine the physical memory card. Sometimes the settings wont update on the next communication properly. I will probably go tactacam when I buy more, but my spypoints are good enough to where I dont feel like getting rid of them.

One of the best features Tactacam has is the aim adjustment tool. When you're at the camera, it has it's own wifi signal that you connect to on your phone through the app. Then it gives you a real time view of the camera so you can adjust it to get it aimed perfect.

When we set stealthcams, we have to use the on-demand photo and wait 5 minutes for it to show up in the app. Less efficient.

I’ve been running spy point flex. They’ve been reliable for me where I can get service. What ever brand you go with just make sure it will run on both att and Verizon networks.

The Tactacam Pro features a screen to aim plus you can have pictures sent 4 times a day instead of two but of course you can still select instant. I’ve been running both pro and x with thousands of pictures and downloads of HD and videos and never failed me.

I have a couple spypoint flex cameras. Running aa batteries (coppertop) they only lasted a couple days. I was getting at least 300 pics a day on one camera. Worked great for the 1st 2 months then started getting notifications that my SD card was bad. Worked through that issue with their customer service. I get decent pictures not great just decent. I have switched out to the rechargeable lit22 battery and am on week 3 and still at mid 70% battery life. I'm guessing that it will make it through January and I'll have to recharge it. I am still getting 3-500 pics a day and it transmits every 2 hours. I bought mine through Costco for 79.00 each and they came with batteries, ram mount SD card and strap. Decent deal for that setup. Checkout the Facebook groups dedicated to the cameras. That'll give you a good idea what your in store for.

I had the same problems with a Moultrie cell cam a few years ago.
Batterys drained.
Not sending all pics.
Bad cell service.
Having to go out and troubleshoot all the time.
Even had the extra battery with solar power.

Which is the point of having a cell cam is ,I don't wanna go out to the tree all the time.
Then the commission has talks about banning the use of cell cams.
So my desire to reinvest at this point is gone.
I'll stick to my beater cams.

So those of you using the tactacams  what are you seeing for battery life in crummy cold weather ? And has anyone had to replace the lithium battery and how long did it last if so ?

I’m a day 51 with two tactacam pros in the far NE.  Averaging around 150-200 pics every 24 hours.   Sending those pics to the app twice a day.  Running lithium AAs from walmart.  Currently they are reading 60% and 70%.   It’s warm there now at 32 degrees but has been down in the lower 20s and high teens a few times so far.

My buddy and I both run Tactacam Reveal X and love them. We also run the solar panel and get great battery life. My cam has been out for months taking pics and it still says 100% power. Before, a busy cam could drain 12 AA batteries in a few weeks but mine is set on triple burst 30 sec or so pause and takes a video at the same time.

Sounds like tactacam and spypoint are top of line here.
Huh ,maybe if I ever reinvest,I'll go that direction.
Moultrie sucked for me anyway.

I had one issue with a Tactacam pro eating batteries. I have 6 Tactacams and that was the only one that gave me an issue. I returned it to Cabela’s and got the same model and it’s been fine. Most cams have been up since at least May.

Once the solar panel gets to the point that its draining your AA's like that you need to take the solar panel home abs charge it over night. They recommend doing that every couple months regardless. Hope this helps.

My spypoints didn't last two years

The tacticam seems like a good middle ground on price vs performance to the point we went all tacticam vs Spartans and we could double our cameras...out of the roughly 30 tacticams we didn't have any failures during the fall months.. had 1 die during the summer

Spartans are sweet but pricey, killer image quality

Idk about other cell cam apps but I really enjoy the app and operability that comes with the Tactacams. Easy and everything were it should be.

Just ordered tactacam 2-pak Gen 2 which included battery pack, sim cards, solar charges for each.  Not the cheapest option should get me going I hope! Picked up 80 acres tomberland and be nice to take a look at it once in awhile.

I wouldn't start with 6-10. Maybe 2-3. I have a feeling the animal rights activists on our wildlife Commission will be cutting out baiting and cams pretty soon if they're not stopped.

Where did you order it from ? I was going to order this year's cameras with the battery pack to hopefully cut down AA costs

Done that several times. It won’t charge overnight. Usually in less than 2 hours it’s fully charged.
