People often ask if I find any sheds from the bucks I photograph. Not often, but sometimes. I was photographing another buck when I looked down and here were the sheds from this buck, about 20 feet from where he was bedded in this photo. Technically a 2023 shed, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s finds. Good luck this year!

Beautiful picture and great buck! One winter, I was watching a giant 3 point for about a month and a half from a far ridge . I finally spotted him with no headgear and went over there about 3 weeks later and looked for them but to no avail. I made many trips in there to find them but no luck. The next year, I climbed in on the ridge I was watching him from and viola, there are his sheds 20 yards away from where I was watching him from.

Should mule deer be dropping right now? I saw a 3x3 with antlers still last week. Living in Montana now I’m wondering when to start hitting it.

My experience you get a few hitting the ground right now but I don’t tend to find numbers until 3rd to 4th week of January on into the end of February. With how mild our winter is I’m not sure how good my season will be. The animals are still scattered all over the mountains here. Nothing in them to push them to the lower elevations.
-
Bone, no pics???
-
Wife is holding them and I am more afraid of her than you guys. Lol. I got the directive :chuckle:
-
You are a smart man!!!

Taken pretty much at midnight on NYE. I think this means it's starting in my area? He had two pokers last time I saw him.

Young forky by my place was down to 1 last week. Some drop early, some hold on till March 25th I've learned... crazy late for a whitetail. He had both sides on March 25th and they were white and faded looking even.

Ya some deer will shed as early as November. But it’s not that common. Most shed in late febuary. My earliest fresh shed was about Jan 21.

I saw a 2 point packing April 17th once. Shed falling is a bell curve. With some wild extremes.

Scruffy but he was a fighter, 1st one!!!
-
Number 2 or is it 1.1?
-
Is that a shriveled up morel?.... IN JANUARY!?.... :dunno:... YOU HAVE A GOOD EYE!!

I don’t typically post shed pictures but here’s one from today to tag me on the thread.

All from this year?!? Already ??

Seen 2 decent mulie bucks and 2 decent moose still packing yesterday.

Wow thats a real good day for blacktail!
-
On the board. Still quite a few packing around my place.
-
Nice Rainier10! Cool freshy
-
Nice job on the early successes! I'm anxious to get out and start looking in my spots
-
Found 6 freshies on febuary 1st. Most fresh sheds I have found on my first hike of the year. All small bucks.
-
Rough day but I did find one.
-
1st trip out, found an oldie but Goldie and a few hangers. Bigger mature bucks dropped a little bit lower than I thought. Maybe next weekend we get er dun
-
The biggest of the day
-
Went back to look for the moose but unfortunately couldn’t locate them again, checked another few areas and spotted these from behind the wheel.

Nice Blacktail sheds! I was going to wait until end of Feb but think I will go out today now :chuckle:

Thanks for the videos. That guy is a riot. I bet he is a blast in the mountains.
-
Not on the board yet this year, not for lack of trips. Need to teach the dog the difference between a femur and an antler. :chuckle:
-
Issaquah blacktail - approximate ATL (I got too excited & picked it up so I had to put back down for the picture😅)
-
Older shed
-
That looks like a heavy antler!
-
Still seeing some mule deer with antlers. Trying not to jump the gun and spook them out early.

First one of the year.. had this bull on camera, so I know the 6 point side shouldn’t be too far away.

Nice!!! That’s exciting
-
That’s a beauty
-
Sometimes you stop to take a leak in the perfect spot. :chuckle:
With that being said, the state of our muley herds is definitely hurting. Covered lots of miles both on foot and driving some roads that have not been traveled since the snow left, and only found the one. Prime shedding areas.
-
Had some fun last week, found a few really nice sheds.
-
Looked along time for this match but couldn’t find it.
-
80% of the 5 points and larger are still packing where I'm at.
-
4 days ago we saw a mule deer and whitetail buck still packing head gear. Younger bucks 2.5year olds (both small 3x3). It may be a hard year for sheds as they are spread all over the place this year. The bucks I saw were not in the normal winter range.
-

It’s a mixed bag were I was. I found a small rag 5 freshie but also saw a 280 class 7x6 still packing. Expectations this time of year should be to see some bulls still packing and some that aren’t.

Seen two quads in gmu 340 yesterday with like 30 sheds. They were certainly in in hurry after we seen them. Got to where they were parked and the loaded up quads utlra fast and got out of there. My suspicion they went down to either Joe Watt or Robinson before the May 1 opener

Actually I wish this state were like other states where they cork the end of the antler with a tracking device so you can be caught. It's absolutely b******* of people do this

that’s why I quit going to feed lots a long time ago. It’s usually picked over pretty good by the time they open the gates
-
Me too
Last time I went, I saw some guy out in the crowd near all the vehicles that were waiting to get into Oak Creek fly a drone
One lady started yelling at him about being a cheater, and I was laughing my butt off and pretty soon here comes the law and told him to put it away.
That did it for me.
I got plenty of sheds with 2feet and a walking stick

That’s really frustrating. But they don’t get them all. It’s still fun to hit the may 1st opener.
-
Decent muley from a little hike couple weeks back.
-
Found this old one yesterday with my 9yr old that cleaned up kinda nice
-
Nice job everyone! Still no fresh ones for me yet, but these were numbers 4 and 5 so far this year
-
First elk shed of the year, and first Washington shed. West Wa is going to make me work a lot harder than eastern Idaho, but I look forward to the challenge!
-
On the board for elk.
-
Back up and good to go.

nothing from the May 1st madness huh? no crazy stories, disappointments or successes? :dunno:
-
It was rough. Only saw 5 sheds picked up. None by me :bash:
The biggest being a small 5 point. Somebody had already been in there on a quad :bash:
-
Thats a bummer. People take time off of work, look forward to it all year to see boot tracks and quad tracks everywhere they go. I used to do Oak Creek every year, but the last time I did, I was one of the first people at the top of the ridge glassing down into cougar canyon and saw 4 guys with pack frames full headed up the other side just after daylight. I still put 6 miles on the boots that day and got skunked. I haven't been back since. It's too bad, that the ones who follow the rules, get the shaft. Not trying to start anything, that was just my personal experience. Others may have more positive ones like we used to have yrs ago for the May 1st openers. My :twocents:

It was a great day out in the woods to stretch the legs out. I was in the LT

Nice job
Great find 👍

Nice

Found 3 sheds while turkey hunting some public land in April. Kid was stoked to find a three point and a small spike within 50ft of each other. My buddy had found the other spike earlier that week. Fun times.
-
wife found herself her biggest shed ever and then 2 hours later found the other side; buddy found a masher when we were looking for wife's other side... many many hours and miles later never could find other side of his .....
-
few more pics
-
WOW!
-
A couple great finds right there! It sure makes a good day in the woods 10x better when you pick up sheds like that!

Old school, do not count the brow tines!!! Yes, shed last winter. Have not seen him yet this summer
-
I'm on the BOARD!!!!!
Same as normal, can't make this stuff up.
So we are walking on a homemade road on some Stateland.
That I couldn't even tell you how many hunters drove down.
Bail of hay and corn piles back there.
I see what looks like a stick, sticking up out of the road, which was the point of this shed. I kick it , thinking that's gonna pop tire .
And it's a shed .
After all year , finally found one to get on the board.
Who knows how many hunters drove over this thing.
The part that was in the dirt ,looks like a fresh shed, tip doesn't.
-
Put a few miles on trying to break in the new boots. Found a few but no big ones…(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250324/7168f7f2e8db91e6df4e02522559c1b7.jpg)
