Title: Suggestions for AR15 slings?

Where would you like the attach point?
For the rear, Butt Plate, On the stock (far side on stock is my rear attach point)?
And for the front as Dreadi said, Gas Block attach point (way out front), Hand Guard, can be anywhere on the hand guard you have an attach point. (I prefer near side just fwd of the upper receiver on the hand guard)
What type of attachment do you prefer, Wire Loop, Sling Sleeve, QD Attachment, D-ring, Para-Cord....many ways to attach a sling.
I use to use Wire Loop attach points in the Military. I knew a lot of people who used Para Cord as well. Both are very quiet.
Now I prefer QDs for everything.

Post by: Alchase on January 08, 2024, 12:14:21 PM: P-Man, any of the adjustable Slings will work. But most dual point adjustable slings can be used as single point or dual point as you wish.
I personally can't stand single point slings unless its on a short barrelled SBR. If you have to run, they tend to nail you right in the groin.
My HD weapon also has a Magpul MS4s on it, but it has been Ranger Banded to the Stock since I built it, :rolleyes:

All of the slings mentioned above are decent slings, it just comes down to personal preference.

I just use 10 round mags for hunting.
Yes a 30 or 20 round will poke ya in the back.
Every gun I own gets used for hunting.
SHTF type deal it might not be the best sling or tacticool.
But it's functional and works for hunting,I'll post a pic later how I got it attached.

Post by: Alchase on January 18, 2024, 04:54:43 PM: If you are hunting with the AR, Hunter399 makes great suggestions. Go with a 10 round mag (if legal for you) and throw a “Claw” sling on it. I have Claw slings on all my hunting rifles, love them.

If using the same rifle you hunt with for Home Defense, I would switch out for a “tactical” dual point quick adjustable sling when not hunting though.

The only time I have used my slings on my ARs (outside the military) is doing a Run and Gun course (organized, not so often anymore) or a shoot and scoot target shooting session this is as often as I can. The rest of the time they are Ranger Banded to the stocks out of the way.
Hunting you will definitely want a “comfortable” sling because you will probably be carrying it a lot. You might want to look at a safari setup that allows you to carry across your chest. It is a very fast way of on get on target.
Unless some zombie methmaggots invade our neighborhood, I really do not see a scenario where I would have to sling my AR in a Home Defense situation.
But the option is there if needed.

Then on the rear end I just added a sling stud ,with lock tight and a nut.

Hasn't broke yet,I've used it alot.
It's not fancy,or looks good,but functional yes.
Then I just use a plain leather strap type sling,like seen in pic.
