Example: Why does "Shaw" and "Shaw Island" not find this http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,27508.0.html?

Suck?
If you don't like the feature, don't use it.
Free is a good deal.
-
maybe you could go find a different forum with a search engine that doesn't suck.
welcome to the site.
-
Is it a known issue that is being corrected? Is it a known issue with no plans for resolution e.g., the guidance for users is to not bother to use it? Or do you guys need a volunteer to help you fix it? what's the deal?
-
Tends to work better if you are on the index page or home when using it, or it will only search the category you happen to be in. Yes I have found things that I wondered why it didn't pull but to say something sucks after a whopping ten posts will make a lot of friends on here.
-
I've often wondered why it doesn't seem to work as well as it should. I believe Ray is planning on upgrading in the future and hopefully that will help solve the problem.
-
thanks for the details. Sorry if "sucks" offended anyone. I'll sugar coat feedback for this forum going forward.
-
I wouldn't worry about it. I think it sucks too. Ray's the only one who would be offended, since he owns this place, but I don't usually see him "sugar coating" his opinions, so it shouldn't be a problem. You're only speaking the truth... the search feature really does SUCK. Just how it is. Don't know why. Ray may or may not chime in here, if anybody knows why it sucks, he would.
-
BTW, are you volunteering to fix it, if it can be fixed?
-
I haven't done too many searches but also I haven't had a problem with it. Maybe some truth to the subject but just my :twocents:

:chuckle:

I figured I wasnt smart enough to get it to work right :chuckle:

It would show up if it was in the subject or first message (original post of the subject). Subjects have more weight than anything. The topic of that subject is not "shaw" or "shaw island". Can you imagine trying to seach 370000 posts for the word "deer"? The first message in the topic holds some weight for searches. Those terms were also not part of the first message.
The search feature is scoped to the board you are in. Therefore you should also consider searching from the board index or using the advanced search in most cases. Google is another option. It is not the best search feature.
When you design a better one I will download it and use it. If you want to donate for a 200 dollar a year subscription to a better and not free forum then I'll take it and apply it to something like vBulletin. I'm not holding my breath that you are going to provide a better search feature or donate the cash for that upgrade of change. The entire system is open source so have at it - if you feel like it's worth your time and efforts.
This site is not a full time job for me. So I don't really care about some comments which are made in an abrasive manner... as if I have some work item because someone encountered a minor inconvenience. Cry me a river.

Dont let the door hit you in the ass when you leave

Works great for the price you're charged. People really aren't interested in reading someone else's whining.
-
Try this too http://hunting-washington.com/googsearch.htm
Yeah free is good.
-
I know this is a bit of an older topic but thanks Ray, the google search seems to work quite well and I really appreciate the freeness of the site! :chuckle:
