Title: Enclosed trailer floor protection?
Post by: Sakko300wsm on January 25, 2024, 07:25:00 AM
Just bought a new enclosed trailer to haul my Polaris Ranger back and forth to my property on the Kettle river and I am wondering about the best way to protect the wood flooring as I am sure it will see plenty of moisture. Bed liner? Epoxy paint? What have some of you done?

Seal the wood with a good product then install horse stall mats..
Then you can remove the mats for cleaning.

Years ago we had a 20’ enclosed trailer that we had rhino lined. We used the trailer for installing granite countertops every day. It definitely got dirty with the dust sticking to the texture but held up extremely well for how many years of abuse it had to take. It was nice on the ramp making it so it wasn’t slippery with water on it.
Harder to clean , and very dark inside. Because it was black.
Don’t know if other options would have worked better, this was all we tried

Don't forget to look underneath at the underside of the plywood flooring and see if it's coated as well. We had a few trailers that just had bare plywood showing underneath. It eventually got wet enough times that it started flexing and getting soft. Got rid of it before it fell apart. Scrapped it.

You can get bed liner in different colors now too Born2late. Just an FYI so if he doesn't like the dark or dirty look of black liner.

Check out some of the stuff at Marine Warehouse, the wool protective coatings.  If you could remove the wool from the trailer, paint all sides with the protective coating then paint with  what you want.  I cannot remember the name as it was a few years ago and I use it all up but my wood floor in my boat never rotted again.

I converted mine to a hunting camp/UTV hauler.  Bought some nicer roll linoleum, and fitted with a little rollup on all edges except back. takes some fitting/caulking work in corners, but floor is basically waterproof.

I also did this except for white. Its worked well but i think a thin rubber flooring is in my future for my trailer now that i bought a small tractor.

 :yeah:

The frame and underside already has a truck bed liner applied to it from the factory. I think I am going to try a roll on type bed liner on the interior floor and 12”-18” up the walls and ramp.
Thanx for all the ideas!

I tried HERULINER on a fuel tank and it was junk.

I did spray my truck with Raptor Liner and love it. It’s really easy to do, the kits on Amazon come with everything you need. If you order the kit with out color you can go to an automotive shop that sells auto paint tint for custom colors.

From what I’ve read wood surfaces need a thicker coating applied. My guess is the flex of the wood.

Pm me if you have any questions.

I’m not going to use Herculiner - I’m going to try another one I founds on line that had great reviews.
I don’t want to use Raptor on a deck surface as it really isn’t very strong. We/I have sprayed probably a 100 kits of Raptor on boats we build. Amazing product but it does scratch fairly easy on high traffic areas . That’s why we only use it on interior walls

I did the same with kilz and it didn't stick very well. Was thinking about that epoxy garage floor stuff
